before the cycle lanes this was the only route to cycle to town on, there were a good couple of close calls from cars, taxis, motorbikes and the odd truck that veered into the yellow lane while we were cycling there ............ it is safer than being on the road, but certainly a long shot short of how safe it is on the cycle lane.

Out of interest, how long is the cycle lane? km?

currently being extended to Melkbos, so when complete will be about 35km Melkbos to City

soryr there is a section between Big Bay and Dolphin Beach where the dedicated lane joins the road, but there are other option here like cycling along the beach parking area instead of along the road.

Do you know what a total mind ****it is to have your Garmin suddenly start talking in miles?

I felt fast, but the speed numbers were too low. And the distance wasn't as far as usual. I thought the GPS satellite system might have been sabotaged and that I was just getting faulty data. (It would never be my Garmin, right?) Stopping and restarting my Garmin did nothing to fix the problem.

Until I saw the teeny tiny MPH sign...

I have to stop riding fast with my SS (with back pedal brake), when the roads/bike lanes are wet. Every time I have to brake suddenly the back wheel slips, giving me a heart attack. It is a gentleman's bike so my weight is all on the back. Not a great potion to control a slip out.

I have already hit the deck once putting me out for 2 weeks.

Need to get some reflective tape on my helmet as well. Was thinking about it now I see someone has alreydy done it.

It doesn't have to be ugly at all. With a bit of care you can make it look fantastic. The red stuff is reflective tape that I got from Maizeys Plastics in Paarden Eiland, cut into shape and stuck on a plain white helmet. Caught in the headlights, it is seriously bright.

And "they" say it works believe me. I'd rather look like a Christmas ???? than a smudge on the road. And because I'm bigger build than the race snakes that smudge will look more like a heap of ????????????. I've got some thinner ones on my rear triangle facing backwards and on the sides of the lower fork legs facing outwards.

Hou die rubber op die grond!

You also get drizzle this morning..?

I had the 'joy' of the basin bath yesterday because our showers in the work gym had no water. Big respect to those who do it all the time, it sucks.

Correct :P  thanks Sani for the the thin blue rain jacket. it saved me.
