I was taken out by a commuter a few months ago - tried to pass me, but there wasn't enough space between the car and me,  ... i think he's bike didn't have any brakes - or maybe he didn't know how to work them ... took us both out. Lots of blood :(

The lesson for me was that danger comes from anyone - I mustn't only look for cars, but pedestrians and fellow commuters are equally unpredictable - need to know who's where all the time.

One thing I hate is jaywalkers.

I can't understand why they have to walk between cars, when 3 meters away they have a pedestrian crossing.

Friend of mine clipped a pedestrian that was looking one way and jumping the other. He was doing 40km/h. Totalled his bike. I  almost also connected a pedestrian that kinda froze in the road, then went the wrong way when I got close to her.

Eyes everywhere!

I was taken out by a pedestrian running between the traffic. Front wheel totaled .... pedestrian got up and ran off into the crowd never to be seen again.

Anyone in Woodstock see my wipe out this morning? Must have looked insane. Was cruising to town on that new bike lane and a car cut across the lane. I rekon I was going around 40km/h when I hit the side of the car, didn't even get a chance to brake. I jumped as I hit the car and I FLEW! Somehow all i broke on the bike was a spoke on the back wheel. Carried on cycling to work but I think I've broken a rib or something, so here I sit waiting for an xray. Stupid to be going fast in the rain even though I was on a bike lane.

passed motorists stuck in afternoon traffic yesterday along Bowling Avenue with a BIG smile on my face. commuting is such a stress reliever!  :w00t:

I passed motorists stuck in traffic this morning down Republic while RUNNING* to the office

* Running in loosest definition of the word. But realising that I'm faster than them was a huge motivator to run a bit further before walking again.

Ouch! Hope it is not broken. Had a bruised rib with strained muscles a few years back after a fall, and breathing was a sore reminder of the fall

Damn. Ended up being two fractured ribs and a collapsed lung. Just had a thing called a chest drain. Not fun at all!

And you got on your bike and rode further on with 2 broken ribs and a punctured lung? Dude, Chuck Norris will be scared of you! ;)

Heal quickly, and take decent pain meds to help you sleep with the sore ribs. (Been there, done that, and some other bits too. :( )

I commute mainly on the side of the road on mtb. Most pedestrians/commuters have earphones in, connected to a cellphone or whatever. Approach them with caution - they are lost in their own little being and WILL jump into you just as you are next to them.

Even if they don't have earphones, they don't know the meaning of a bell either.

Lesson, stay away from them.

That thing in the ear, it disconnects their brains from the world around them, whether it is an earphone or a cellphone! :cursing:

To add: Always keep a beady eye on drivers glued to their phones as well, they just do not see anything other than the expected, because they are drivig on auto pilot. You on your bike, is something they don't expect to encounter, that's why they simply don't see you, or register seeing you, and drive straight over you while looking you squarely in the eye.
