You also get drizzle this morning..?

I had the 'joy' of the basin bath yesterday because our showers in the work gym had no water. Big respect to those who do it all the time, it sucks.

Just preparing you for when you next visit the Cape.

You'll be expected to clean up in half a teaspoon of water (you can drink the other half if you do a ride of over 4 hours).  Once you have bathed in your half teaspoon, you wring out the tea towel you used, and cook your recovery pasta with the few drops you have left over. If you don't comply. auntie Patricia may just deport you back across the mountains to the outer wilderness where there are swimming pools full of the precious stuff.

Anyone read "Dune" lately?

Get your popcorn as I have a small rant... (Sorry know this may be off topic, but with the amount of safety talk happing in this thread of late I thought it would fit in here)

WHY IN HEAVENS NAME DO YOU HAVE TO CYCLE HERE???

I saw you turn off from Blaauwberg road onto Otto Du Plessis drive (r27). Why could you not have pressed the little button on the robot that allows you to pass safely to the other side so you can actually get on the specifically built bicycle lanes! Sure it would've made you wait for about 3 to 5 minutes and even if the traffic is moving at snail's pace.

By doing this you could have increased your and others safety 10 fold.

Are you too f...ing good for a bicycle lane? Are you an immortal god? Are you able to manipulate the space-time continuum? Why Why Why???

And when that day comes where someone hits you, now you expect us all to feel sorry for you and your family. Never mind the trauma suffered by those who hit you on the road where all of this could've been avoided had you invested more time in your safety and cycling on the dedicated bicycle lane.

I see this every day on this road, mornings and the evenings always the same idiots! Fed up now. think it's time to shame you.

Bit lit. But when I was living on the West Coast and would do regular commutes Melkbos - Century City, the sight of these okes would give me road rage. It also gives such a *** signal to other road users.

I have learnt not to stress about Darwin candidates ....

BUT ... it really irks me their actions p!ss off drivers, and ultimately puts the rest of us in a bad light ....

With current levels of the dams and the expected rainfall over summer, there will be no cycle tour in March. Not unless people make effort to bring their own water from wherever they might hail. Also, I can see a lot of slow riders getting too dry water points.

Heard on radio this morning that officers will be permanently deployed all along cycle route from CBD to TV, and will cater for after hours commuters as well, thereby working in shifts.

Anyone have further insight into this and the extent thereof?

It's by time we see some proper action taken.

One year .....

Realised this morning that I did my first weekend test-commute in October 2016.

GLAD to say it has been a very consistant thing.  Two to three return trips per week.

My stats for the FIRST ride -

Time– 23:17

Heartrate –

-        Average – 134 bpm

-        Max – 169 bpm

Min – 104 bpm

And my stats this morning

Time – 20:22 ( I have done the route in under 17 minutes, but to keep sweat limited I do the morning ride VERY slowly, as my heart rate clearly shows)

Heartrate –

-        Average – 116 bpm

-        Max – 136 bpm

Min – 81 bpm

Having much more fun in the afternoons.  Being able to stand up and PEDDLE up some nice hills.  Taking much more effort to get my heart rate to zone 3 .... :)

And it has really been a VERY positive influence on my health ! :)

Well done.  I have been commuting now for 16 years.  This hear has seen the most milage as most of my cycling was only commuting.  Of the 6500 km I have done this year about 5700 is commuting.  I am propably the fittest I have ever been in my life.  My two girls got a smart watch yesterday and we were looking at heart rate readings.  I was surprised myself to see that my HR while standing was 46.

I have not once regretted commuting by bicycle.

WOW !! that is some SERIOUS miles !!!!!

Mine is a humble 5km ride one way.

But coming from bust knees, and weekly injections for arthritis, I am VERY gratefull for the constant improvement in my health.

Nice work ChrisF!

Very nice.

Must make you proud to see those numbers.

On a side note, I went and looked at my own numbers for the year to date.

If I had to guess, only 600-700km is not commuting.
