The one time I clipped a mirror was because the car was in a yellow lane and I could not avoid the mirror because a taxi closed the gap and I had no choice.

And I have only once taken off a mirror and that was on the motorbike. The guy passed a car and I was in his way. I hit his mirror with my shoulder. I am not the TMPD and never have I had any idea that I am.

Good glad we have that sorted . Now if you can only take one thing away from this - your actions have concessions for others.

I am glad I missed the rain in PTA today, but drivers out there were real twats. Almost had an accident when a female thing with a Hilux from the Freestate decided that she had to pull out infront of me. I am just glad I saw what the thing was going to do, so I moved over to the other lane (glad there were no oncoming traffic) I was doing about 50 km/h to get away from a taxi that hooted the whole time (not sure what the thing wanted)

I should have taken her mirror off for her. Hat female things in their 4x4's. They have this attitude of an god. or wait, is that satan (do what you wilt)

Funny you should say that.i was commuting home on Friday on lynwood bridge over the N1 at a red robot doing a track stand.taxi behind me hooting to try put me off.ignored him but when pulling away he thought it funny to squash me onto the curb (breaked hard to avoid)....then stopped in front of me.i swerved around him and gave him a piece of my mind as I went passed . not impressed.

It's actually tense , he is very tense ,he gets as mal as 10 men.

But back to the debate.

We also can't just stand down for every little stupid scenario or something dumb that motorists do.

But I agree with most of what you said .

You have balls of steel mate. I never cross that bridge anymore. I will rather cycle to Kings Highway. The traffic system works great to lessen traffic to get onto the N1, but fudge, ever try to cross that bridge at 07H15? I tried it twice and decided it is not worth it. People are driven by demons these days. Won't dare to cross the path of them...

Today was my first rain commute. So different, but I still loved every minute. Knowing that everyone forgets how to drive when it rains, and there I was safely off the road.

The only thing that scares me about the rain up here is the possibility of lighting... Especially on a steel frame. :P

Think an Aluminium frame will be equally dangerous...

Think while traveling you will be mostly safe, especially going through built up areas. Can take gold course safety into account and stay away from trees and wide open spaces.

Yesterday was also my first rain commute, Was very awesome but I found out I have a problem.. My rain jacket works great, but my bag got wet, luckily it wasn't pouring down.

So anyone have ideas on a cover for my backpack or should I just get a new one that has a rain cover?

I really don't bother about an external shell for my bag.

All I do is have all my goodies in plastic bin liners (not the big black bin bags, but the smaller white or blue bags for the smaller foot pedal bins).

Everything stays 100% waterproof, no matter what the conditions are.

My backpack is left to get wet/muddy and I just wipe off and hang when I get to my destination.
