ti guy Posted November 16, 2011 Share Hi, What's your alltime favorite saddle? I'm trying to research a new saddle purchase and I've not really got any credible info. Most shops want to sell me a Fizik Arione - But I see so many 2nd hand Arione's up for sale. Let's see what you all have to say? What's your alltime favorite saddle (pls add whether you are OffRoad or a Roadie?) AX Lightness Phoenix. It comes in at 62g and the most comfortable saddle I have ridden.
Audible Anarchy Posted November 16, 2011 Share i love my fizik Arione (on my road bike) - changed from an SLR as i find it has little more length, giving you more options to shift your position around. Comfy from day 1 - no need to break it in like with the selle. as Splat said above " Get your sit bones measured and buy a saddle that is the right width for your ass.One man's favourite saddle is another man's torture device." if your butt is a little wider go for something like an Antarez instead - if you dont want to fork out to have your butt measured, sit on a piece of styrofoam and measure the distance between the imprints - this will give you a ball park width to look for. Keep in mind the shape of the saddle and your riding style / flexibility as well : i find a narrower nose means less saddle for your thighs to rub against and a flatter saddle makes it easier to rotate your pelvis & ride in the drops. if you have a more upright riding position something like a selle gel flow / flite may be more comfy. often these style saddles have cutouts which will relieve pressure off your nether regions too. Longer rails give you more options in terms of fore / aft position too.
Wayne R Posted November 16, 2011 Share Selle Italia SLR. Had a Arione on my old bike. Good saddle but I still prefer the Sella.

#Pete# Posted November 16, 2011 Share Get your sit bones measured and buy a saddle that is the right width for your ass.One man's favourite saddle is anothe man's torture device. Some shops have test saddles (I have seen Fizik, San Marco and Specialized). Its an expensive trial and error process otherwise. Laugh at that "assometer" from Spesh - you don't sit anywhere near where that measures! Spinnekop Posted November 16, 2011 Share Hello....my name is Spidy....I am a self confessed saddle whore. If it looks good I buy it.....(If I have the $$$)That said....of all the saddles out there I am back on my trusted Arione. No matter how many good reviews I read about the SLR....which is a pretty sexy saddle, I could not get used to it! I am now trying out the Fizik Antares 00.Not bad. After 500km I am pretty satisfied with it. Very importantly.....as said before.....each to his own. Try them out and find what is right for YOU! For instance.....Armstrong rode a horingoud, UGLY, heavy saddle despite having all the options in the world available to him.

Specialized Melrose Arch (Concept Cyclery) will do the measure & more than likely be able to loan you a test saddle. Think Cyclelab in Boksburg had the Fizik test saddles, not sure about 4ways. Andrew_ew Posted November 16, 2011 Share Specialised Romin for road and Specialised Phenom for MTB. Both are "cut away' in the middle so as to relieve pressure on the nerve endings and to ensure consistent blood flow through the crown jewel areas. I was on Arione's on all my bikes and switched them all over to specialised. Result, no numbness after being in saddle for longer periods, improved comfort. There are also many other l/t benefits of using cutaway saddles. +1 i have the Romin on both road and mtb - awesome saddle - looks like an ass hatchet but is very comfortable - the cut away also stops chafing in those areas as well - also tough - mine survived a 60km/h session of tar chewing with only minor scuff marks - unlike the rest of me

Tjokkits Posted November 16, 2011 Share Are there any saddle designs available specifically for ladies? Currently I have the Fizik Gobi. there are many ladies specific saddles, selle italia, specialised etc I have worked my way trough all of them but at the end the (non ladies specific) specialised avatar works best for me. also tried selle italia slr ladies, works well on road but for some reason not on my MTB
