Seeing as you are neer Hillcrest try the red route on Hillcrest across and down through Kliprug, right at the dam and through Contermans and up the hill to the fence, turn right at the top and you will find a lovely hill waiting for you, once at the top go back down on the single track and climb back out of Kliprug back to Hillcrest.Stunning route with plenty of climbing and fun singletrack downhills and switchbacks. If this route does not help then there is a serious problem.

Is that the hill with the cement jeep track?

I've been riding for 23 years. That works.

What I meant to say, is there are no short cuts. You talk of a couple of months, I give you decades. See what I did there?

There's been a similar thread a while back. Couldnt find it, but from what I can remember, one guy said find a tall building in your area, (more than 10 floors) check if you can use the stairs, then run up....increase your sets to about three times per day, do that twice a week and you should experience a marked increase in your leg power.

 Hey, that was me what said it. I said find a tall building and run up and down. If there is no tall building, run up and down the same steps a few times- even if its one story. Guaranteed that even a fit cyclist will battle to run all the way up the staris of a 10 storey building, but its excellent cardio and muscular development training. The up run uses similar muscles to those you use when climbing on your bike. Good for rainy days and when you're short of time.

 I wanted to say Yang, but wasnt sure!

Still need to apply the good advice though.

Be as it may, at the K2C (had a DNF) I realised the importance of cross training. Thats why since then, I havent been on my MTB that much, but rather started running and LSD on weekends or just playing around on the trails a bit for now.

Anyone taking the Gautrain to Sandton. Don`t use the escalators or lifts use the stairs, that is a serious climb all the way up from underground. Factor in a heavy laptop backpack and other bits and pieces and you have some nice additional cross training thrown in everyday.

I have been following TNT's training advice the last week for rides of 1 hr and less = Fullpower all the way. It's Friday and I'm knackered

I hope you are also following his russian and chips recovery diet ;)

Yes with T.I.T.S and LSD in the mix you are looking at great weekend. Maybe chuck in some charlie and then it's on...eye of the tiger stuff man

To the OP I jog once or twice a week...keeps the fitness up when I can't get to the gym, only problem is its hard on the body so you get injured more often, well I do at least
