Mntboy Posted June 23, 2019 Share Once again we are being convincingly beaten... Sad how far behind we have fallen.Faf inability to bat thru after a good 50 is very very disappointing. At a loss to even begin to describe the absolute idiocy of his shot selection when he got out. He was clearly playing a premeditated shot instead of playing the ball on it's merit and I think one could use his dismissal as an example of the indecisive and unconvincing nature of our batting the past season. We are going to take a severe beating when we go to India post this World Cup. Edited June 23, 2019 by Mntboy
'Dale Posted June 23, 2019 Share A few comments before today’s showing:  The bowling department have been competitive.Kudus to the those that sling the arm. The fielding standards below par. Sometimes those sharp chances would've been held in the recent past. The batting standards way below par. Very questionable 'last-minute-dot-com' selection with Markram and dropping the specialist in Hendricks. The Mighty Hash is struggling with personal matters (and form) and batting in the top 4 is extremely mentally and emotionally challenging while the frontline bowlers is still fresh-ish. The batting unit needs to make amends and actually start performing. It is shocking how poorly they have done as a unit. Quite a few who get in only to lose their wickets to a soft dismissal. The senior players have also not really stood up throughout the tournament and it seems as though our team has regressed ito match management rather than improve. The below puts it into perspective: babse and nonky
Vetplant Posted June 24, 2019 Share In hindsight, we can thank our lucky stars the game against Afghanistan didn't rain out, otherwise we would have been in with a real chance of the wooden spoon....
leeubok Posted June 24, 2019 Share I disagree about the bowlers. They have been very poor as well. I read an article this morning, Morris is ahead with 9 wickets so far. Rabada has 6. Leading wicket takers in the comp have 15+. Before the WC our coaches have talked our bowling attack up as being one of THE best. Now excuses are being made: Rabada is over worked, Ngidi isn't 100% fit, Steyn is out etc.. The only one that can hold his head high is Tahir.  And as for the over worked Rabada.. Faf is saying Rabada shouldn't have gone to the IPL, he should've rested instead. But tell me, why aren't the Indian and other bowlers that played in the IPL tired? nonky and Vetplant

Gen Posted June 24, 2019 Share The entire squad has been bad.. batting bowling, fielding, captaincy decisions all bad, bad, bad. Lackluster, they don't deserve to be competiting against the top teams in the world. They can either rebuild and start afresh or continue making the same mistakes and supporters can either continue expecting better performances from a mediocre squad or they can accept that if they continue with the same squad then mediocre is the best we will get. Eddy Gordo Posted June 24, 2019 Share I would of much rather enjoyed seeing Holland and Scotland in the world cup over this performance by the Proteas. Even Afghanistan had a better showing, so wished they could of won one game, in fact 2 games just so that they can knock south africa to the bottom. Gandalf Posted June 24, 2019 Share Watched NL vs Zim T20 yesterday, was better than watching the proteas. Some familiar faces in the NL squad.
Shebeen Posted June 24, 2019 Share man this has been massively disappointing in almost every respect. The only guy who has really performed is Immie and he is retiring in 2 games time.Apart from that Chris Morris has been credible, especially since he was never in the plans but got lucky with injuries to find his berth. I suppose beyond that just AP has been half decent.  We had De Kock and Rabada cleaning up in the IPL last month.Faf also performed nicely, you don't become a bad player overnight.I can only think that it has come down to confidence. Who is the mental coach? Just need to remind myself how awful england are at world cups, and see how they have turned it around Vetplant

Shebeen Posted June 24, 2019 Share this was an intriguing listen, there is a lot more science behind the sport than one would think. big takeway - kirsie reckons huge diff between T20 and 50overs, but that doesn't explain how india comes off IPL smoking, and QdK and KG couldn't bring their form in.   https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-science-of-cricket-with-gary-kirsten/id1461719225?i=1000441937825
