I use Cadence Revive after intense sessions, Hammer Recoverite after LSD, sometimes a combination of the two. I also used to enjoy FiT Dura Train. Mixed it with milk and Horlicks Light.

Hardly ever take recovery drinks these days though, only after super hard days where I have to ride again the next. I find the best recovery is a good night's sleep. Sometimes a good day's sleep too :P

Where I need recovery most on a day-to-day basis is with my cardio-vascular and nervous systems. Muscles and glycogen stores will recover in their own time by eating properly.

Soya naturally contains all the essential aminos for muscle recovery, the problem I have with the milk though is it contains the fat and carbs of the drink, and its really the isolate you want.

Cows milk = No no, contains too many hormones and in the long run is worse.Everyone says whey, BUT guys you need to understand the difference between a whey isolate and concentrate as there is a large difference and a big financial difference as well. The other thing is one of the posts showed a high % of carb to protein ration, again no no, you will only gain weight, you need a high % protein to carb ration, and something like 85%protein to 15% carb would be good. If you guys have any questions on recovery, its one of my fields of expertise feel free to ask ;-)

Really have come to value Epic Pro .... Expensive, but then again it does last me quite a while and did score a freebie from a mate who does work for them.

Also had some of those sample packs of NutrLife from the Expo, now my regular morning brekkie!

I think the recovery stuff is more imosrtant than energy drinks/gels/bars during your ride? Unless your are out for more than 3 hours water is good enough to take with you on training rides- the energy stuff just makes you fat? Thoughts on this?

I agree to some extent, but I guess you have to ask how you train? For training I only take water for anything up to 3 hours if it is in the early morning, but even if it is up to relatively hard. Really hard probably something more. But I'll have my Milo afterwards and eat something. Races, even for two hours, I like to take something more. But normally only finish one bottle, because I still find it difficult to race, drink and eat the whole time!

I spend quite a long time in the dairy industry when living abroad, its a fact, and especially in south africa, that the hormone levels in cows r extremely high. A cow can only be milked when its pregnant, they milk cows 365 days of the year, cows r not pregnant for that long. So a lot of research has been done and if you look at the fact that RBST hormone is not any longer given to the cows it does not matter, as from generation to generation the high hormone levels have carried across. If you look at a Woolworths Milk label as an example and this one I photographed, see below. Its a very interesting statement "Free from added RBST hormone" BUT they cannot say its totally free from the hormone. Bottom line cows milk today is shocking, and it was never meant for human consumption. Goats milk, soya or rice milk from a health perspective is far healthier. Looking at the alternatives, goats milk is best, rice milk is unfortunately processed, and can be fattening, soya is the next best alternative, but soya has quite a few advantages, especially if its an isolate. It contains all the essential and nonessential amino's, no other protein naturally contains this. Also science has shown that soya contains phytoestrogens, which bind naturally to the estrogen receptors in the body and its shown to decrease the risk of cancer. As I tell my clients natural is best, we were born to live off the land, Abraham had goats in the desert NOT cows and there were no processed foods. What most people r consuming today is really a health risk, and one should always go back to basics, to keep it as simple and natural as possible. So my proteins of choice are soya or albumen, but soya comes first, I dont take anything which is an animal derivative purely because I dont trust the source of it, and i have seen with my own eyes what goes on behind the scenes. Remember guys health first.

Interesting indeed. A buddy of mine have just gone vegetarian after watching some video on youtube. This doctor in the video was saying the same thing, anything derived from animals is bad news, mostly because humans wasn’t “designed” to live on as much protein. Eggs for example was intended to hatch a chicken and for that reason contains loads of protein which is bad for humans (according to him). But here we read that protein is good to repair damaged muscle tissue. I’m waiting for someone to come explain the difference between animal and plant protein.
