Nooooooo! Rather put jesse kriel at fullback. Or even lambie. Or give willie another chance with more lions players on the field (he seemed to play a lot better the last 20minste). Anybody but kolbe!

Kolbe for fullback

Kolbe too short.  Falau and Savea wouldn't even have to jump to outjump Kolbe.  I would however love to see Kolbe as impact replacement on no 9 for the last 20 minutes.

He's may be diminutive

Yet brave under the high ball

His kicking game, vision and attacking flair is from another planet

If this were England or AB's or any other side, the Bokke would've lost badly...

The altitude played a Big Role, and Allister can thank the Lions players.

This Is actually an Irish B-Side, I think if they were a full strength side, it would be a different ball game...

Didn't help the SA "A" team on Friday night. Our problems are on and off the field. Wrong team selection and an amateur and/or sterile game plan.

Ackerman is coach of SA "A" yes, but as mentioned by Lions players he has a different coaching style and this becomes evident in how the Lions play, what Ackerman cannot do on such a short space take a liquorice all sorts and make them Lions.

Definite improvement from last week.

Someone came up to me this morning saying "better game by SA..."

I said. "NO. Better last quarter."

Then reflected how poor we were up until then. It was even worse because who would've thought we can play so badly after last week?

I still think that first quarter giving away all those penalties in such a silly way should just never have happened at this level. Yeah it's a great win but we should just never have been in that position. No disrespect to the Irish but going down like that against a better side you can pack your bags at halftime and go home.

Maybe the spectators must boo them more often after playing poorly.  I could not think it was heartwarming for the players walking into the tunnel for halve time under loud booing.  In fact, I never before heard the crowd booing at the Boks.

Kolbe for fullback

I know it sounds cleche but his just too small. When I see how Combrick ran over "someone" for his first try and that Irish #10 runover by Peter Steph , the fatigue setting in Duimpie de Allende breaking those last 2 tackles I don't want to see a charging Savea one on one with Kolbe at the intensity a notch up from Super rugby. Just my preference.

He has lethal step don't get me wrong but at this level he will be worked out no doubt and that WILL be neutralised somehow. It's what's happened to Willie.

On another note. You see that little bulge on the back of the players? The HR monitor in the jersey. Listening to Eddie Jones speaking he mentioned all the data they get in real time. They can see how far each guy ran during the game and othe stats. And they can monitor a player's recovery rate. If the HR remains elevated they obviously know his fatiguing.

That could be due to a number of factors based on how the game plays out. A prop missing a tackle in minute 70 for example could be because the scrummaging rate is 15% higher because the game is slower, the ball is wet and results in more set scrums whatever.

He reckons they use that to determine who to replace and why. If the coach has access to that kind of info it's not the players fault cause the coach should know when to take them off.

Gives a bit of perspective to the replacements. Duane just had to come off but mostly it's because someone might have had a higher workload early on. The players apparently are on their limits by minute 70.

That's a rather selective quote Bianchisti. I pointed to the improvement being on the scoreboard and I went on to say that we need to address certain issues one of which was the penalty count especially early on. That penalty count and the resultant points is what put us under pressure and lead directly to the Ellis Park crowd correctly booing the Boks. I never said all is well now, if anything the Boks need to do the hard yards they need to, to improve but this past weekends win is a tad bit better than losing. Once again I will re-iterate that there is lots still for the Boks to work on and improve.

You're right. No harm intended buddie.

I agree. On the overall scheme of things. Better position to be in than last Sunday.

Final remark about Kolbe:

Size is far less relevant at full-back (and can be exploited with a up and under from the opposition)

Field positioning is key

Also vision / reading to game situation

Joining the backs at pace

Having a good clearance boot

Creating something out of nothing with counterattacking

Kicking into space to gain field position, etc

The youngster is excellent at all these capabilities

***

The 3rd test will be far less forgiving as the Irish will give it 150% of grit and determination.

Unforced errors will have to be laid to rest by the Bokkies and forced errors will have to be minimized.

It's gonna be quite a challenge.

Hard to call.

Most likely Boks by to 7 or less with home advantage

No harm no foul, right?

Yes definitely a bit better than last weekend but still lots to do for the Boks not to win the series but also to be competitive in the RC.

Will be interesting to see what team AC decides to go with for the final test considering not only the fine performances from the Lions players but also the stakes on the outcome of the match.

On Kolbe:

A fine player, and would give his all for the Boks, brilliant in loose broken play. Could definitely do a job for the Boks but maybe better as a supersub? Another academic debate worth having.

On the PE test:

Lots for the Boks to work on. No rarified highveld air to help save us on Saturday. Option taking under pressure must be better, as must our discipline (still conceding loads of early penalties) and we can't wait for the subs to start getting stuck into the Irish. Our physicality needs to be there from the very first second of the match otherwise we are in for a long afternoon. Even the sloppy Aussies would've beaten us last Saturday. Boks have shedloads to do to improve and not a lot of time to do so. Hard to guess a result but the Irish will feel they have a very decent chance at winning the series and they wouldn't be wrong to think that way. The Irish have been playing the better rugby and on the balance of that deserves to win on Saturday unless the Boks come up with something special!

From my limited perspective it was interesting to see that England beat Australia using Jake White (maybe they too were Eddie's; but he was associated with cute back line play in the 2007 RWC) type tactics (from the possession and tackle stats anyway). Let them have the ball then tackle the crap out of them, force penalties and have a reliable kicker/great maul.
