Some stand out points from reporters in SA and NZ (links at the bottom):

"However, with (George) Smith, as with McCaw, most of the time it wasn't, it was just their innate ability to sense when the right moment was and what the right technique to employ was."

"Sometimes I think he was maligned for cheating when he was actually just that good."

Depending on who you listen to, All Blacks captain Richie McCaw is either the greatest rugby player in the world, the greatest cheat, or both.

If you want to see some classic Richie doing his world class stuff, go to 5:40. he finally gets penalised at ruck, and again it next move in the red zone, gets warned.

does it again in the red zone, ok now it's your final warning.

does it again, no problemos.

and that is how he never got yellow carded. the refs were just too scared or something.

That doesn't make him a cheat, it means the refs aren't doing something about it. If they did, he would've been sin-binned more often and then possibly labelled as a cheat.

Since I pulled the plug on DStv, I've watched less rugby, so I'm a bit out of touch compared to before pulling the plug. However, this year, I've seen more complaints about the refs from just about every rugby show... they are inconsistent in their interpretations of the law, from high tackles, no arms in the tackle, forward passes, over use of the TMO, or not even considering the decision from the TMO - and the list goes on.

So while "we" are moaning about Richie and his cheating ways, why are the All Blacks still allowed to do the Haka before every game, but no other team are allowed to do something similar? edit: (except some "Maori" teams)

The other teams are even "forced" to stand still and watch it, they are not allowed to respond to the challenge (whats the use of issuing a challenge, if the other team may not accept it?). The few times the other teams stepped forward during a haka, they got fined afterwards for breaching some or other silly rule (Boks, Frenchies and either Scotland or Ireland if memory serves me)

Imagine the out roar should a team turn their backs during the haka.  :whistling:

Terrible yellow card on Willie Moestache ????????

The Bokkies managed to grit it out and showed composure against a feisty Scottish team.

Defensive effort getting better.

Forward play. Solid especially in the final 20z

Fortress Murrayfield got busted.

Was not gonna be easy.

The Welsh Dragon next. ????

That yellow card was a disgrace. It was not even worth a penalty. If that ball travelled slightly differently he would have caught it again for a brilliant try.

Just came from a ride

Watching the Irish - AB game.

The Irish were fantastic with ball in hand.

The Kiwis’ defence were given the platinum level quality test.

First win on Irish soil agains the Kiwis.

What a day for the men in green.

There were actually three really good games last night. The Welsh are also looking really good. I think that's 8 wins on the trot for them

The Welsh are ranked 3rd in the world so next week is going to be a real test!

I have an issue with the way they do things for referrals. The ref is still the boss, and makes the final call with "guidance" from the TMO.

He's watching things on a big screen about 70m away.

How do you make difficult decisions on that basis?

It's very seldom that the TMO overrules the ref if he makes his own opinion after viewing the replay on field.

the scottish commentators are watching it on an HD screen, they don't miss things

poite took no advice from the TMO here, did it all his own.

and he's got a great record of co(king things up

I was watching on bbc2 and the commentators were dumbfounded that that was a penalty... Nevermind a card. It was a shocking decision and even though it did not impact the game too badly..it had the potential to impact it a lot more

Agreed. In fairness though, there's a number of Boks that should have been sent off for their moustaches. They look like a bunch of 1980's traffic cops.

That physio dude that comes on from the sidelines when someone needs attention takes the cake...grey hair and a moerse black handlebar moostache
