This sucks - SB is one of my favourite training rides.

Is there no way that we can set up a forum / panel and try and negotiate with the park???

Anyone keen to try?

anyone?

I thought Gu was just for road riding ... the packets look so nice squashed flat and plastered all over the tarmac.

Apparently the Otter Trail run was very littered after the race. If adventure/sports people dont have respect for the environment, we just are'nt going to have the free use of it in the end? Of all the places in J'burg, Suikerbos was probably the best for safety and good hill training... what a massive loss!!

What about something like the gel-bottle:

Handy ... but surely, if you bother to carry a full packet with you on the way out, you have space/weight to carry the empty one back? I hate them ending up all sticky in my jersey pocket, but I'd rather that than litter up our beautiful countryside

At the start of my group at the Argus on Sunday the announcer asked everybody nicely not to litter their GU containers along the route. First guy I see taking his shot flips it over his shoulder onto the road. Some people shouldn't be allowed outside ..

Walkerr - Did you watch the video? You put the energy gel inside the bottle at home. Nothing to discard on the road or mess up your cycling jersey pockets.

IMHO this has nothing to do with how the contents are carried or packaged, these type of people will do it regardless :(

You're right.. the problem is not the packaging, it's their attitude. Why is the minority always screwing things up for the rest of us :cursing: :cursing:

Yep, in fact already looked at and seen that method - only use gel very occasionally when totally bonked though, so wasn't for me.

Was really just saying same thing as BigBen - it's the mentality of the litterer that's the root cause, alternate packaging may help, but how hard really is it to carry an empty packet home

Thanks to pig-like behaviour of cyclists, the Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve will soon be closed to all cyclists. Apparently end-May is the target date.

The reason? Three antelope have now died afer ingesting discarded goo packets.

Yup, you goo pigs may not know this (probably don't care) but if a ruminant ingests plastic, it dies. Period.

A secondary reason is that some cyclists are riding stream-up. And yes, we know other visitors and staff are also guilty, but so are you.

A contributing factor is the reason for using the park. Since it is a nature reserve, visitors come with a certain objective. Cyclists visit the park to train and use it as a training ground.

My view is that the last two reasons could be tolerated but the last nail in the coffin is the goo packets.

Thanks pigs.

GZ this sucks bigtime , wanted to go check suikerbos out 1 day but spose that wont be happening now , prob same guys who think their chip packet or stompie isnt litter , as for the high5 , face plant with shovel to the back of the head more to the point .
