Manual brewing is very trial and error till you get it right unfortunately.

What grinder are you using and are you weighing coffee in/out?

I use ground coffee from Truth or Terbadore (I don't own a grinder...). I weigh the coffee going in with  a digital scale.

I will fiddle some more. I just feel that the coffee doesn't have the body and flavour that I get from the same coffee when using my plunger.

Get a grinder and go fresh, that ground coffee is killing your flavour...

Buy a grinder..... pre-ground coffee is dead for espresso.... DEAD....  You can get away with pre-ground in a filter machine... but you might as well drink instant.

how slow/quick is that grinder?

I ask as I can end up making lot's of coffee at times.

you'd be able to grind about 2-3 espresso at a time, i use the mini porlex grinder, only 1 at time, had to make about 10 cups now the other night what a mission, looking at that Baratza Encore suggested above...

Or you could scratch around at your local charity shops for one of these, strip it down, fix it up and make niiiiice coffee.

My gran has one .... that reminds me I have to "remind" her again that I could give it a loving home!

BTW, tried that exact bag of coffee beans recently, and it went down rather well!

Ah yes. We really enjoyed it too.

And it really is a very tactile, sensory experience to grind your coffee beans in a machine like this. The sounds, the smells, the vibrations through the handle. It really gets the salivary glands going before you even start to make the coffee.

sorry gran .... we need to have a serious chat! :P
