What works for me these days is my own banana bread made with raisins, sultanas and choc chips!

If I am out for 4 or more hours then I will also take a sarmie along (not many little 'plaas' shops where I ride these days, sign of the economic times!)

But I am not a race snake and dont like a growling stomach!

Cadence Classic for < 4hrs, Cadence Marathon for > 4hrs.

Don't need anything else, bars, gels whatever.

Prior to Cadence stuff, Biogen Carbogen and granola bars - 1 bar per hour, broken up into quarters.

Training for Ironman i munched on hot cross buns. They were awesome, ate about 1 every 2 hrs, just having a little nibble every half an hour. Used these and a combo of water and powerade and was fine on training rides up to 7hrs.

Over the past 17 years I have been cyclin,g I saw a lot of stuff people do and use.

In the beginning I did not leave the house without a bag full of stuff.

The supplement industry have made us sooooo dependant on their stuff. We forget the days we trained and raced on half coke, half water....and it worked!!

As for me......if it's a ride like yesterday, 3 hours easy, I use one bottle of water. 4 hours = 2 bottles of water.

As for racing, one bottle of water and one mixed with USN Epic Pro if the race is over 100km.

In general people eat too much on their rides!

3-4 small boiled potatoes for rides over 4 hours.

Boiled Eggs

Dates

Enduren. 5 scoops in a 750ml Bottle. Take 2 bottles on longer rides and a sachet of powder if you ride over 4 hours.

Enduren Energy bars. Not sticky and chewy. Taste like a Muesli bar.

Sandwich with Peanut Butter or Nutella

Red Bull Power Shot for the last 10km of a race or just in case I need a boost somewhere.

These are items I like, you can replace brand names as you wish. The Spuds on a long ride are a winner

On a 6hr+ LSD ride I take the following:

1 packet of salted mixed nuts (cashews, almonds, macadamia etc) or 1 packet of trail mix (dried fruit and nuts)

4 Dutch Caramel waffles

1 small Blackcat peanut brittle slab

2 Jungle Oats breakfast bars

2 bottles of Game (refilled with water after about 4 hours)

I don't usually eat everything, but it's nice to have a couple of options.
