I think it's time to buy a heavy piece of k∆k and set an example!

Although truthfully I fall in love with all bikes I ride!

It appears that things are getting worse.

I ride home along that stretch every Tuesday & Thursday, and its a mess.

Clearly no enforcement, so that one time blitz of fines just pissed everybody off.

If they were to return and try that again, there will be a lot of resistance. And good luck trying to maintain that law...

So, the bike lane through Woodstock is now just a formal parking lane or pedestrian walkway.

It's dangerous to keep swerving in and out of the lane over the bumps, so may as well just stay in the traffic and take my chances there.

I cycled in from Tableview yesterday in morning traffic and happened to be riding next to a cop while going through this section towards Mowbray. Waved at the cop who opened his window and I asked him if he was prepared to do anything about the 17 cars parked every 30m along the bike lane and he just smiled and said he had more important things waiting for him in the office. I smiled while shaking my head....

Breakfast is the MOST important meal of the day, so he was correct.

He was the only guy in the car and from the size of his waist I figured he ate his partner for breakfast already...

Wait, it could be round two of breakfast then. As you were....

It drives me mad too so I found a number for the Cape Town Traffic dept and whenever I see everytime I ride along Albert Road I phone in and report the cars. The last time I did that there was a cop dishing out tickets when I rode back about 45min later  ^_^

The number is 021 5961999 perhaps if they get enough calls they might ticket there regularly...

Tickets are just pieces of inconvenience. Tow the offending car away will much more of a inconvenience

Good intentions, but badly executed - They even get it wrong in the UK

I think another big problem in SA is the lack of cyclists on our cycle lanes. If there was a constant stream of cyclists using the lanes things would sort themselves out naturally. Having a cycle lane like in Green Point with maybe one cyclist every couple of minutes means most people are not even aware that these are cycle lanes.
