Growth Hormone (HGH) - WADA and SA drug free sport why can I not use it?

Armstrong confided to several people that HGH likely contributed to his testicular cancer. This is cited in Hamilton's book and elsewhere. No doubt he overdid it when quite young, but all the same, unless you have the cash to pay for top-notch medical advice, and perhaps even then, it's seems like a dangerous road to go down.

Healthy -people - a person who has cancerous cell is not that healthy and yes HGH will speed the development of those cells! I am talking about a person (I think I may be one of them) who is 100% healthy. Darwin theory should come into play here - long term survival of the fittest!

There is nothing to stop you stop you using HGH and maintaining your youthful looks and abilities. See your doctor and have him prescribe it for you. Book an appointment with a orthodontist at the same time.

Do however know that it will give you an unfair advantage over fellow athletes and therefore know that you will not be able to compete in any sanctioned event.

SA institute of drug free SPORT says it all.

No

Unfair advantage - why? I am not looking for that I am looking for longevity! If you all are allowed to do it - and then gov were even to hand it out free of charge where the advantage. I am sick (no pun intended) and tired of gov trying to keep unhealthy people alive for long (their are enough people in the world) - why not keep healthy people alive for longer? This is said tongue and cheek!

Carte Blanche - did a documentary not so long ago on drugs which would possibly be able to extend our live to 1000 years of age - now why if WADA or SA drug free sport put these drugs on their banned list WHY should sports people be denied the possibility of living longer? HGH is probably just the starting point of what is available / already been designed!

If you want to take HGH take it, just do your research properly.

There are a lot more people on HGH than you think. Like you said it's the new wonder drug.

You will only have a problem in sport (cycling) if you start winning races and at 40 even with HGH I doubt that will happen.

After all you aren't really worried about your race result, you taking HGH to combat old age.

Ok, so i just came back from the Doc for some blood tests. I posed the question to her about HGH. Pretty much as I was expecting, there is no good news with this "drug". A person my age 37 i wont get any taller and my body structure has grown to a point where it cant anymore. So taking the HGH will firstly cause a mass buildup as the body does not get taller, the only other way is outwards. so you pickup alot of muscle mass which obviously makes a person heavier, not good for a cyclist. The other thing is increased blood pressure and the heart also grows but not in a good way. Stroke and heart failure is a given. According to her its not a natural growth hormone...duh but it has much more negatives than positives, otherwise everybody would be on it.

Problem is I am still highly competitive - even at world level! So yup too afraid to use anything. But why should I have to make a choice for sport between an "easier (less pain worse eye sight worse hearing)" and shorter life when for people not doing sport could quite happily use these drug and governments ( like they do with AID's drugs) should possibly even hand them out for free for 100% healthy people! More and more drugs are currently been designed for longevity - so no doubt if it is not HGH it will be something different quite soon! I not looking to cheat in sport - the stakes are higher - I want to cheat my own natural death and prolong my own life!

Stop reading populist medical fiction - do more homework - if you don't like my proffessional opinion - go and pay for a few.

You will kill yourself faster using this and the like, and you seriously need to look at your motivations about cheating things (death and sports in one sentence)

I am not saying HGH is the wonder drug yet - but drug are / have been designed already which may well be if Carte Blanche has any substance behind their documentaries. My suspicion is from a sports perspective is these drugs will be banned!

Plenty of drugs are designed that have unexpected consequences that do not come out in testing - thalidomide springs to mind....

ANY drug that gives a performance advantage to one individual over others WILL be banned - see explanation above - not everyone thinks medicines are always good (rightly so) and forcing them to take them to compete fairly is ethically and morally bankrupt.

But if you want to take HGH or similar for your 'health' then feel free to go ahead - make sure your medical aid/insurance knows about it - they should give you a discount... and they will.... free pass out of the scheme, and you/your family will be funding it yourself if you should ever land up in my theatre - which there is a very great probabliity of doing - medical schemes do homework on these things on your behalf, and you will become a very high risk/ex member shortly.

Good health is a balancing act - a very fine one - disturbing it artificially has consequences - some you live to regret and some you don't.

Icycling, you seem to be a very competitive track cyclist and at your age and experience you should ahready know the answer to your question.

It is simple, if the treatment will alter the outcome of the race (ie any recognition, UCI points, Money, placings ext) then it will be deemed to be cheating and you will be in line to be tested.

If you were only a "fun rider" and the treatment would only result in you coming 105 instead of 120 in the local timetrial or church race then nobady would care what you did to your body.

but you

You would be taking valuable UCI points away from another competitive. So the answer is:

GROWING OLD IS NOT FOR SISSIES. If you wanted to leave a good looking corpse you should have overdosed on EPO when you were a junoir. But you did not because you were an honest cyclist and did nor even consider cheating. So why are you considering it now? Because you suddenly realised that you getting old? HTFU and live with it.

He is talking about taking HGH for aging. Those are small quantities that will not result in any side effects except make you feel better. But even small doses will improve your performance on a bike and I guess that why it is banned.

From what I have read, Lance got testicular cancer from overdosing cuortizone not HGH.

Got this pvt msg from a fellow in a hubber and now I am really not sure where to go!

Did not really want to post in a open forum. My opinion on HGH is that it is great stuff for anti aging. I have done plenty of reading on it and from what I have read it is safe to use as long as you don't overdose over a long period. It does unfortunately improve your athletic performance. I am 53 and feel like I am 30.

This was my answer - I have had a few to drink after coming 5th a Killarney tonight (Cape town racers will understand ) even in this wind - we the break avg was 43km/h!

Thank for the private msg - this confirms what my friends tell me, problem is I still want to race and live forever!!!! How do I get the best of both world - and I don't think WADA or SA drug free sport accommodate guys who are moving on who want the best of both world. If I were to take drugs health and longevity would be the only reason - sport would be way secondary to that - yup I want to cheat death and death alone! But I am also a proud honest sports person and here lies a cross roads! Do I give up competitive sport to have longevity and a more comfortable life - or put sport something I also live for ahead of life itself? It is a serious cross roads - possibly the worst with the most serious of consequences (death or having reputation tarnished) in my life I have had to face! But should it be - life is more important to me than reputation! But I don't find any comfort in this answer.
