I have little sympathy for Australia - they deserve what they get for beating the crap out of poor old ZA almost every time we play cricket or rugby. How about them giving us some protective "duties" like, say 100 free runs or 20 free points in all games. The we'll be able to compete "fairly".wink.png

Ooh my CRC goodies arrived today .. The Urge All Mountain helmet was worth the wait.

CRC is just another shop. If I need mechanical work done on my bike, I take it to my LBS, who bring in CRC shipments twice a month, sometimes more. CRC is part of their supply network. Everyone's happy smile.png

You really should do some research or know what you're talking about before you throw around ignorant comments like that.

And what makes my comment 'ignorant' ?

I've been considering one for a while. What did it end up costing incl VAT?

I may be wrong, but I think the difference comes down to duties and taxes which the locals have to add to their cost base and CRC doesnt.

Surely when we talk about import duties...or the lack thereof...it's the same for me as individual and for the distributor? Why would SARS treat me as individual 9importing a bike part) any different from the distributor importing that same part???

If the distributor stops ripping us a new each time...perhaps they can compete on equal footing with the likes of CRC??

Ive avoided looking at CRC lately because I always find myself oogling over those Lynskey frames drool.gif

I was allowed to stroke the top tube of one of these frames on the condition that my wife was present at the time.

we pay duties and taxes when we order from CRC. The local suppliers will also be exempt from duties for spares just like we are. I have by chance seen the actual cost that a certain supplier pays fro items and it is significantly lower than what you get at CRC and your LBS

eggxagetarry!! How does the agents then justify their excessive margins??

And how's that? Even with the benefit of cheaper stuff from the likes of CRC he is still doing alright (Driving a Porsche apparently)

Seems like being a successful business man is a crime nowadays... If you are making too muck money, you need to cut the profits... Bull. If that is the attitude than perhaps a move to a socialist economy should be on the cards. That my friend is the model of capitalism! Make as much money as you can and spoil yourself by buying nice stuff. If I was making good dosh I would also be driving a flash car (Not sure it would be a Porsche though...)

I agree with you whole heartedly - It is ridiculous how people view it a sin to be successful. They don't like it when your flashy stuff is more shiny than theirs...

I only mentioned the nice car to indicate that the local agents seem to be doing alright.

I wonder who makes the better margin - The local agents or the LBS?

You might want to check out the Coolheat owner's non cycling related business interests before you accuse him of making undue profit off Coolheat.

That is some info I woould love to see - the general sentiment on this forum seems to be that the distributors are milking it while the LBS suffers.

I wonder how true that is...
