let me get this straight.

If you've done the epic you can keep the sticker on your bike, (by done, I mean paid your entry).

You are now one of a select group. 10 years at 1200 per year means there's probably about 5000-6000 people who have entered the epic. So it's not such a big deal anymore to have the sticker on your bike. But hell, sell some replica kit to get your brand out there and these okes will koop.

If you've done(in this case, completed) three, you are a automatically a member of amabhubhesi. This is a fictitious club, with no entrance fee or id cards. There's probably about 200/300?? people in this club now. Why is this kit even for sale? Surely it should be given out to you as you cross the line on your third event.

Apart from the Ama-i'vefinished3epics-babusi kit, wearing an epic branded cycling shirt or bib short is no worse than wearing team replica kit from a pro tour team. It's all about brand building and showing who/what you support. Nowhere on the kit does it say "finisher", it's just branded kit.

The finishers T-shirt should only be worn if earned. But not too often as washing it spoils the printing and the colour fades....

And your feelings about a guy wearing a Springbok Jersey ?

Chubbies in sports kit look patriotic but also doff and amusing.

If you dont do sport, dont wear the clothes.

If you aren't likely to "just do it", don't wear Nike?

Now I thought the main reason for doing the Epic was to flaunt the stickers (jealously guarded against aging), bag and kit! Certainly they've earned it (and some respect from me).

if you did the race, wear the shirt.if not do not.even if i get a tshirt in the goodie bag(like xterra) i will not wear it prior to finishing the race.just think it is bad karma. but to each his own. i have not done the epic so i will not buy the epic clothing that denotes a finish never mind 3.

i have the same superstition about race shirts. Never remove them from the packaging until race is done.

Maybe Craft are selling the kit off because they no longer part of the Epic next year.

Perhaps they selling the kit to everyone to spite Mr Vermaak. I heard the break up was ugly. Assos will be the new kit sponsor.

If I saw some fat slob in some amabubesi kit that I knew wouldn't make the 1st month of training let alone a stage but managed to browse the catalog while passing through the Craft Stall on his way to the St Elmo's Sliceaway I would kick him down the mountain then ride down and kick him back up :cursing:

Wait, before I get my ass kicked by a random guy.

I did the epic over a year ago and I have picked up weight since. The only thing that still fits me is the epic branded buff. Thankfully my head is still the same size.

if you see a fat guy wearing an epic Buff, please don't blinksem him.

Thanks in advance ;)

Nah don't agree, I've been using the MCC tie I bought on ebay to get me into Newlands members for the last two seasons. Match it with a clipped british accent, a 'i'm just in town on business and wondered if anyone could return a favour' and you're relaxing in comfort and looking at the general public growing pinker by the second while sipping on G&Ts.

You're probably not far off, now I know why I was being forced to accept that the Epic was now just a brand. Get over it people, its really not that big a deal, anyone with enough cash has bought an Epic stamp. There are far more important things to worry about in life. Just ride your bike.
