The culprits in this case really p!ss me off, because in one fell swoop they've done irreparable harm to the cause. On the one hand they've given the "I told you so's" the fodder they're looking for, on the other they've given those grudging "donors" the excuse to stop giving to/supporting cycling development (they didn't want to; in the first place). The "real" sponsors/donors will recognize this incident for what it is; a crime (theft). Which unfortunately you will find in any walk of life, in any age group, race group, income group. It is unfortunate that they were not brought to book and that the "coach" was not held accountable, but the SAPS hands are tied in this matter in that the victims chose not to lay any charges so I find it rather stupid of people taking them to task (in this instance). If you really feel so strongly and have all the info why not report the matter to the relevant CSA affiliate and bring Disciplinary steps against the club then?

Right,I deninately agree....crime does not know any race / colour /sex etc etc.

Another example the thru axle skewers that was stolen at another premierMTB stage race!!!

But when in this case the few facts points to a certain group of youngsters...I think a proper name & shame is not too much oug of order?

Pity about the greater scheme of things that gets tarnished with the same brush....its unavoidable.

changing of the thread title....nah, i'll stick tomyguns and will rather humbly apologise if proven wrong!!

Ps: will be at the marathon tomorrow - i will endeavour to speak to the security officials involved..just to clear matters up for myself.

See what I did there?

Sure, you may prove that it was in fact a development team in question. That doesn't by ANY means prove that they're ALL the same. I get the age old story of how one group of individuals can ruin it for the rest, but why fuel that? See the bigger picture and isolate the individuals for the thieves they are, instead of starting a rumour that all development teams members are thieving, unappreciative individuals.

Doesn't matter too much who did it. The fact is there is clearly a huge prospective theft pool at races.

Anyone remember the scene from "full metal jacket", where private Pyle has an unlocked foot locker? It's time we all stop making it so easy for people to walk off with your stuff.

Lock. Protect. Watch like a hawk.

II know it's not nice, but it's our reality.

The lads who lifted the bikes messed up, but that in no way sums up all development riders.

I am only to happy to continue my efforts in cycling development and believe me, the lads in question are few and far between, just like the 'non development ' guys that lift bikes and buy stolen gear.

Get involved with development and change a life..........and believe me, your life will be the one changed, and for the positive! That's been my experience anyhow.

No such excuse... If the victim declines to, or refuses to open a case, the State assumes the role of the complainant who is subsequently subpoenaed to present evidence in court.

...

I'll not be helping any development teams anytime soon....they screwed it up for everybody!!!

Over the years I've ranted about development riders. These individuals are just making it harder and harder for some us to support their cause and are ruining it for others.

La la lalalala welcome to the wonderful country of S.Africa.

So typical.

Don't believe it dose not happen in first world countries. Bike theft is a global problem and not just limited to South Africa.
