And remember its one way so once you start you need to do the loop :whistling:

Its all fun and games until the last couple of km's....you realize you have to climb out of that valley....gulp

Looking at my Strava story for Suikerbos...

That first climb is 3.7km, 240m gain (6%, 18% in some places)

The last climb is 4.8km, 250m gain (5%, 15% in some places)

But the climbing starts a lot sooner on the last climb... 11km at 3%

I'm not sure you can tar a 18% gradient ?

Bassonia will give you some monster climbs that will come close but probably

not take more that 5 min .

Try Soetdoring street from the robot on Comaro to the top , it's a toughie

Come to think of it, Pelindaba, we did an AR there, will see if i have the Garmin file. It'll be a mix or rubbish tho, MTB, run, MTB. You go in where they do Jacaranda road race from these days.

SBR, i think the 1st climb i've only seen 12%, not sure of the back, it's also pretty steep.

Only other serious place i can think of is Mankele, Sabie area & Zimbabwe :)

I rode the legends climb in a race and ran it in a 21k as well,

There is nothing as far as I know that it that steep in Gauteng, not even loveday street in Pretoria.

Closest is the climb in pretoria west to the tower (close to Mabopane/Jan smuts intersection)

Phone Anton at Cyclehouse if interested (012 546 9855) as they train there regularly

OK, anyone know of a nice climb in Joburg?

Specifically after a 18% gradient.

600mt of climbs in 3.5km.

Anyone?

I see u from Benoni...

Perhaps the Sarel Cilliers street climb up from the Ebotse Estate Gate? The ONLY decent climb in Benoni

Day two of tour of legends has a 600mt climb in 3.5km.

I wanna feel what that feels like.

I might take some sinumax just before so i can fly up the hill. :whistling:

Did the tour of legends last year, don't worry about finding a hill like that. There isn't one anywhere in the civilized world ! Anyway, you will be walking it so if you are really serious about trying it out, push your bike up 20 flights of stairs in the Carlton Centre.....

Yup give SBR a go there Wayne, good hill training no matter what bike you take. It's a very decent traning ride, requires a bit of "commitment" though.

Van Gaalens is a long haul from the East, but also its convoluted and one can easily find an excuse if you get a bit sut and take a short cut back to base. Not SBR though :)
