And she dares to drive away...

So after reading this Afternoon what happened to oom Koos, I said that I am scared to get on the bike to go home.

I just had a ill feeling in my ass and why oh why did I not heed this feeling. I believe it was the Holy Spirit that tried to warn me...

So first incident. At a Stop. I stopped. Cars stops after I stopped bu I wave them to proceed. I started off. Then this woman in her little piece of poo decides that she is not going to stop. So I stop again in the middle of a 4 lane road to wait for this thing to pass.

Took off and enjoyed a bit of rest for the last 1km. So I turn into a road. Running my lights on flashing mode. See this lady in a Clio stop. She sees me. Now this is down a hill. Bike is going on a steady pace of 30 odd km/h. About 3 meters to go, this black haired thing drops her clutch and speeds in front of me. No I saw this coming, so I started to move out of the left lane to the right,

So with no other choice I hit the driver side of her car. I could not make enough space for her. After the shock and disgust for this girl, she just sped up and took off. Not even sorry nothing. Her problem being that adrenalin started taking effect. So I chased her. All the way down hill. Got her at a shopping complex. For 1 my protection as I do not know what she might do. She tried to kill me once.

So I pull in next to her and knock on her window. And she was like in sorry I saw you but did not know you were going that fast (really, fat guy on a down hill?). So I looked her in her eyes and told her, that sorry will not bring back someone from the dead if she kills someone.

And I would guess that this is not the first time it took place. Her car (now sporting my dent and scratch on the side) is already scratched and dented in such a scary way it isn't even funny.

So I took off, scared to bits and to tell the truth, mentally scared. I just hope that the next cyclist she hits will also be able to cycle away. Slightly bruised and shaken, but without blood being spilled.

Think you got the nail on the head...people cannot anticipate speed...like minded people wait for the cyclist to go past and wait a little bit extra if that is the case...the others try take the gap and therein lies the problem....glad you are ok

This is one of my worst fears when i go out to train on our roads some of the drivers just seem to ignore you, but I try to refuse them forcing me to ride in fear every time I go out . Glad your alright.

Glad you got off relatively unscathed.

Though I can't help to think what would have happened had you gone down? Would she have still driven off?

Glad you're OK. You handled that well, confronting her in a non-aggressive way. Maybe, just maybe she will have learned something. Well done.

MrDCycle, I'm with you. Can't ride in fear; can't let drivers stop us. We have one life, live it well and enjoy it. Francois, I don't know if I buy the Holy Spirit warning you ... but I can buy that you were seen home safely, and that's the blessing.

Tbh you should have laid a hit and run charge against her. People need to start taking accountability for their actions. Did you take her numberplate?

+1

Hit and run charge . It's only going to take you 10min at the local cop shop.

I did not. Stupid I know. Should have taken the camera and taken a shot of the plates. But at that moment it was the last thing on my mind...

Thanks everyone.

Still shaken be the thought of what could have been.

But I will have to get the fear out of me. Doing the same tomorrow morning again...

Well glad you're OK bud. Hopefully you don't stay nervous too long - too nervous and you're jittery and become a bit of a hazard yourself. But once the nerves have settled you'll have some good awareness to help you get home safely.

Same thing crossing an intersection with cars wanting to turn right; they totally underestimate the speed that you are going at and mostly decide to go at the last minute. Road bike disk brakes seem like a good idea to me.

Glad you got off OK cois
