For those of you who may not have seen my post on Lance Armstrong in which I basically call him a psychopath - I have followed up with an article on Phil Liggett. For those annoyed with 400 hours plus (7 tours x 20 stages x average 3 hours per day) listening to Phil Liggett during the Armstrong years, please check out 'The Mercurial Phil' on www.oncyclingetc.wordpress.com

I like Phil, keeping one entertained for three weeks without making any mistake on commentary, or calling a wrong name is excusable IMO. Same goes for Paul.

They are to the Tour what Hugh Bladen is to SA Rugby, or what Murray Walker was to F1 GP. We`ll probably miss them when they`re gone.

I`d much rather listen to them than that irritating bloke who did the live-on-the-bike commentary.

Turn the volume down if it annoys you.

Yip - all though I can make fun of him I actually enjoy the two of them, you are right, like Murray Walker - once he was gone everyone missed him.

Its not my problem with Phil, my problem is with Paul Sherwin trying to prove him wrong the whole time. He keeps chipping in, its bloody irritating.

TDF wouldnt be the same for me without Phil albeit that he tends to get names horribly mixed up.

Phil is brilliant and the fact that he does his utmost to promote SA whenever he can, deserves some sort of respect.

I agree - and before we critise - can any of the complainees do any better or even half as good ? There is no one else who could do better IMHO

Phil was a lovable, if confused old codger, until he decided to weigh in on his buddy Lance. From that point on he was just a tw*t.

Ja he cocked up on that one.

I did not see/listen to too much of this years tour, but what I did see, was it my imagination or did they not mention the one whose name should not be mentioned that much?

There is no problem with Phil. the problem is with people who listen to him and feel disappointed. Don't like his commentary then use the language option on DSTV and listen to it in French, or Spanish, Dutch, German

Can't speak any of those languages? well whose fault is that?
