Which side is your rear brakes?

On my Merida and the wife's Giant and Specialized, the rear brakes are on the right side. This made sense to me as I am used to mostly using the right hand for brakes like on the motorbike.

Bought myself a bike last week but the brakes are swapped around, so rear is on the left.

Googled it and apparently it differs between countries being a function of which side of the road the ride ....

Do a search it has been discussed a few times before.

But yes mostly you'll find:

Left: front

Right: rear

Many things have been discussed on the hub.

They were lost.

So we start again

Yep we start again. I use strong hand, right for me, front, it is the stopping brake. And left rear. But change it to what you are used to.

I often forget about the portion of the hub that went into oblivion.

I ride a rear right, front left.

OP, whatever works for you, just keep it consistent.

I went down to Ctn once and the nice folks at a local bike shop lent me an awesome Giant Reign for a day or two of fun at Delvira. Only realised the brakes were the other way around when I tried to drag the rear end around a particularly fast and twisty switchback, nearly put myself over the bars :(

Left hand for rear, right hand for front ... and, I'm right-handed if that makes a difference.

Of course, there is one bike that's the other way around, which makes for some interesting times ...
