if you only have one bike with only one set of wheels and you ride tubeless and you need to fit in one morning session, knob-knobllies it is. Beside like most people said, who cares.... ride your bike.

Ride your bike as you want, when you want, where you want. Just enjoy it.

Anybody giving me lip about riding on tar with my (dirty non-S-Works) mtb, returning from trails/dirt roads/whatever... Well, I'm out riding and enjoying it, you're just spoiling your own moment.

At least you have evidence to prove where you have been. Thanks for the comments. It's for me, as a novice, weird to count more knobblies than slicks on the road. This is not the first time either. (Take a sunday drive between Houtbaai and Campsbay). I understand the resistance factor for training. But, not so much the "I enjoy knobblies on tarmac more than slicks".

I prefer to use my racer for roads and mtb for trails. It just makes more sense ito tyre prices and sheer riding pleasure. I ride from Bellville to the Botlary hills on my mtb, and it aint fun until I get off road. Where as riding the racer on the road is fantastic. It seems, I am the only one then....

I ride my mtb on the tar during the week for intervals and hill training. I will much rather be fit and replace a rear tyre every 2-3 months than to sit on my arse at home and "spare my tyres"

Everytime I see WTB Bronsons or Maxxis Highrollers on sale I buy a few.

If he was riding a Raleigh would it be acceptable, Cant believe riders are being slated for riding.

Train heavy, race light.

Training on a mtb for a mtb event cant always happen on dirt.

Mtb is safer on urban routes.

Sometimes its what i want to do.

Tyre expense - who cares?

Lycra - who cares?

Well said!!

I only have one bike nowadays and it`s a DS 26" MTB ,actually more of a trail than xc bike, I ride it mostly off-road but as I live in a built up enviroment I have to ride on tar to get to the dirt as it were. I love my aggro knobly tyres and can`t be bothered to change tyres for the tar. I ride in lycra because it is comfortable and my bloody pants don`t get snagged on the saddle as my baggies do.I do sometimes miss the pockets. I don`t shave my legs and only regret this every time I shed some skin on the ground. My wife likes my hairy legs. I regret selling my racer a couple of years ago and have been trolling the hub for a suitable replacement lately, love the responsive and taut feel of a good racer. I have done quiet a few road races including the 94.7 on my DS trail duallie with full knoblies ,wearing a camel bac, covered in mud and all from the previous days MTB race( what a pity that they split these events!) I apologise if I scared you when i passed you on your carbon racer with my howling knobblies ( 2,4 Mountain kings ) on route to a very respectable 3:32, I will try not to do it again, but I think that I just possibly might.
