Iwan Kemp Posted October 28, 2013 Author Posted October 28, 2013 I've had one or several q's via PM regarding fork offset and particularly the 51mm I'mm running on the VIPA. Instead of re-typing it every time I though I'd share a link to an article explaining it in detail here:http://calfeedesign.com/tech-papers/geometry-of-bike-handling/ In short: The more offset a fork has, the less trail - giving faster steering. I have to warn you though, trail, rake, offset, head angle, etc, etc...all just numbers in a big brewing pot that only makes sense when taking into account the complete package. Travel a bike not maketh, chainstay length a bike not breaketh.
Headshot Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 P Morewood knows a thing or two for sure. Just got my wife a Zula - the rear suspension is plush without hampering efficiency...
DJR Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 ...............Travel a bike not maketh, chainstay length a bike not breaketh. Once apon a time, in a little Karoo town not all that far away, there was a very wise English teacher who knew to keep Shakespeare away from all the farm boys or there would be no hope in hell for most of them to matriculate. But I'm happy to learn now, even if it is late, especially if bike words are included! See if you can write a sonnet about your build!
Shebeen Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 a truly local bike deserves the potjie of reviews here, wonder what language the third reporter can use?
Iwan Kemp Posted November 4, 2013 Author Posted November 4, 2013 Another great weekend's riding behind my back. Rode Tokai on Saturday with no intention or goal other than just riding the Vipa. Realised the suspension has bedded nicely and can do with a tweak or two - front and back. But, to be honest I couldn't be bothered! Was such a great day out riding killer single track (which I helped build!) on a perfect day. Sunday I rode from my house to Zevenwacht, couple of twists and turns there and headed home. What a blast. Only had a water bottle and my phone with me and really enjoyed the relaxed cruise on the bike. Very little comes close to just being out and about on my mountain bike on a sunny day. There is no doubt in my mind that it's capable of more than just being a pure race snake bike. Granted I've made some spec tweaks to aid this, but the frame and rear suspension is capable to soak up Cape Town's rocky, rooty trails.
hboli4 Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 Saw the bike at the Momsen stand at the OFM this weekend. WOW!!!
