It doesn't cease to amaze me how when a motorist, especially if it is a fellow cyclist behind the wheel, is shocked at the response he gets from blowing his loud hooter as he drives passed someone on a bicycle. Do you seriously expect a positive reaction?

I see 6 cyclists cycling inside the yellow line and one outside it. Bar the one guy not inside the yellow line, I don't really see the major problem here. Also, as a motorist and fellow cyclist, I expect you to have a bit more decency than to hoot at a person riding a bike. There is nothing more upsetting than a motorist driving past and hooting at you while you're on the bike. It annoys the crap outta me.

So, how dangerous is it really to ride in a bunch like that? From what I've experienced from a motorist's point of view when approaching a bunch like this is 1) yes its annoying, 2) I notice them, 3) I slow down and wait till its safe to pass. Not quite the same experience when cycling alone.

 

Statistically, I'm wondering if anybody can confirm this, but how many accidents have there been of cars knocking cyclists in a bunch vs the cyclist on his own?
