My first time doing baviaans, excited and worried at the same time.

Who are the Bloem riders going? We are 5 guys training together, but would be nice getting together with a different group for weekend rides

Also, what type of clothing should we be taking along? Arm warmers, leg warmers, base layer, soft shell and rain jackets is what I picked up. Anything else? And finaly, is it necessary for to take along extra cycling jerseys and shorts?

I just checked some guy's Strava upload of the Baviaans last year, his gps measures temp as well. It never went above 20 and dropped to 3 at night. That is hellava cold in the mountains. Those temp's we will easily get in Bloem so I recon I should be kitted for that, I am more concerned about the rain. We don't get rain here in winter. Cold is one thing, wet and cold is another.

Wet , cold and hurricane winds :w00t: was what we got at about 3am . 4 layers of clothing , surgical gloves , head/ear warmers and a sense of humor pulled us all the way to the end .

I have done 3 Transbaviaans and am going for my 4th one this year. On all three occasions we have had very different weather. The first one was so cold we rode with jackets, base layer leg warmers booties etc for the entire ride. The year before last was very very wet so I can highly recommend sealskin socks for those kind of conditions. Last years it was a bit of a mixed bag and it we did it pretty quickly so we only needed war clothing at the last check point, however if you are slower then it would be a good idea to get dressed warmly earlier. A good light weigh rain coat is also a good item to have as it can keep the rain as well as the wind off you. This is the strava link from my ride last year

Sub10, that is an epic ride. We are not there, probably 13 is what we are aiming for. Mid pack and it will be a successful 1st go. So I will fall in that slower category.....
