That section is going to be interesting. Fairly loose gravel, quite a bit of corrugation, combined with testosterone filled cyclists = recipe for disaster.

Did a recce of the route over December, not gonna enter.

Sure its not just the thought of Vissershok into the South Easter? ;)

I'm going to ride the section the day before to check it out. If in doubt, I'm doing the race on my hardtail. Should be able to annoy a fair number of the slower roadies! :)

Rode it this morning (on my mtb). Road in decent condition for a gravel road but there are definitely a few sandy, rocky & bumpy patches that can cause problems in a tight group, I predict a number of complaints next monday on thehub....

I did it in my car last week just to check it out when I was out that side, and I also thought there were a few areas that were a bit hectic with "exposed rock" that could catch you out. Hope the grading makes it ok.

tbh I'm more worried about the 3 little climbs after the dodgy gravel bit than the dodgy gravel bit itself. Gonna be brutal after 90km's of racing

Have truer words ever been spoken on the hub?

I did the gravel section this morning and it's crap. Lots of sandy and rocky sections.

Hope it will be fixed by Saturday.

Thanks for the feedback/warning. Based on how long it's taking to get seeding for the race, repairing/grading that dirt road by Saturday morning seems unlikely...

This is what the road looked like this afternoon. There were lots of traffic on the road, but that could be because of road works on the stretch of road towards the Vissershok Rd climb (they fixing some potholes!)... First 1km of the gravel road is a bit rough, and the last bit where it joins the tar road.
