Sorry TW but i have another question for you.

Dont you think that your profile picture might cause some people to feel offended?

As far as the hub rules go nudity is not allowed.

And i will be reporting the picture.

This is not a bait at you but I feel offended with the picture.

Edit spelling

TW is an ex moderator isnt he? Valid point that you had Carpet. IMHO. Double standards once again.

There's something else I have to confess, besides being said white ou with black soul and being bothered how white the sport is ...

I took the short cut down the one way the wrong way to the car park at Suikerbosrand on Saturday BUT there was a context - it was the peak heat of the day (around 15h00), it was hot, +40 Deg C, I was dehydrating since I had run out of water (forgot to pack my second bottle), Naughty, I know, but I proceeded very carefully in case a car was coming up the hill. No one saw me but its been bearing on my otherwise clean concious.

Hope you all don't mind, especially you AO.

Yes, I am. That avatar was there for most of my almost seven years on this forum, and was there long before I was a moderator. Wonder why it's taken that long for someone to take offence to it…

in my books: racial slurs = hate speech

http://www.nohatespeechmovement.org/ has 10 reasons why to take action against hate speech

However, this one stands out:

Prejudice neither begins nor ends with the subject that speaks and acts (Judith Butler)

Also read this scholarblogs.emory.edu/dividinglines/2013/10/02/stereotyping-is-never-a-one-time-deal

"
”individual
exp
ression of prejudice neither begins nor ends with the subject who speaks” (Forman 179). I think this is powerful because it points out that prejudice, and especially racism is never really about one person simply harming another because if it was we could just work with the one person doing the harming and the problem would be solved. Structures of inequality have long histories and are connected to all aspects of life (education, housing, healthcare, the legal system, etc). And it is people (individually and in groups) that can help change these structures, just like they helped build them."

Then ask yourself why racial slurs such as "k*ff*rs, n*gg*rs, ch*nks, *ml*ng*" are not used daily in the 'civilised' media. Answer to that is quite easy: Those word offend as they stereotype based on race and in the cultural hotpot that is South Africa they bring visions of hatred & division.

What thehubsa.co.za (YES the website/business - via its owner & operators) is doing justifying the use of one of those terrms is beyond comprehensible....

I must also say that I take generally offence at the use of the word "Caucasian" since it is laced with racist white supremist inflections, given its origins that's no surprise:

For example, from Caucasian race on Wiki:

"The term "Caucasian race" was coined by the German philosopher Christoph Meiners in his The Outline of History of Mankind (1785). .... Meiners proposed a taxonomy of human beings which involved only two races (Rassen): Caucasians and Mongolians. He considered Caucasians to be more physically attractive than Mongolians, notably because they had paler skin; Caucasians were also more sensitive and more morally virtuous than Mongolians. Later he would make similar distinctions within the Caucasian group, concluding that the Germans were the most attractive and virtuous people on earth."

I am reporting the use of that word here to the moderators.

That reminds me of the movie Burglar:

Carl Hefler: Cause I'm a black man in a white man's world...

Det. Nyswander: Uhh, Mr. Hefler, you're caucasian...

Carl Hefler: Beautiful! Hold THAT against me too!

Guess you're going to report me now…

Why don't you ask Admin why I stepped down as a moderator? That may put a slightly different spin on this latest spat…

Did we really just lose the Holy Roller avatar? Nothing is more part of thehub than that.

I am fine with dropping the term Caucasian. I am not fine with keeping any of the other slur words, especially those relevant in the South Afrivan context.

It's quite pathetic.I find it amusing and in no way offensive.....

if it offends, it offends. If it transgresses, it transgresses. Irrespective of the past. Just like some words.

I see plenty nit picking and attacks on mods here. As far as i'm aware no single mod can just delete a post, it has to be done in consultation.

How do you know ? Is it written somewhere ? I have asked admin for a written reply to exactly what the process is, but is still waiting for an answer.

I don't always agree with mods but if you don't like it, well there's the door.

This seems to me to be a rather insensitive and immature comment.

According to Matt himself here , https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/135211-warning-regarding-baiting-inciting-and-intolerance/

your comments could be seen as to "deliberately annoy or taunt another person or group of people."

What is considered inciting or baiting?

Inciting: Comments that provoke a strong response (likely negative) with the intent to stir trouble.

Baiting: Comments which deliberately annoy or taunt another person or group of people.

A number of warnings and suspensions have been issued this morning already. If the behaviour continues further suspensions will be issued.
