2014 Santa Cruz Tallboy Carbon, worth the money?

Why would you recommend a curved seatpost on the hardtail?

Not meaning the adjustable part of the seat post... The bottom part to the crank if you are looking at 29ers. Look at BMC for an example. Puts more weight on the rear wheel making the front wheel lighter and easier on the up hills... Also makes manuals and wheelie easier.... Changed alot for me...

Oic what you mean, my Merida Tfs500 bignine 29er is the same if I understand correctly what you are refering to.

I can only see a small pic of it.... But it curves with the wheel... Yes... It's my opinion that changed alot for me. Came from a gaint and loved it. Felt better in the twists but the curved seatpost made the hard stuff easier... Hills....

No bike is worth R65k imo. If your children could inherit it, like sports car or hunting rifle etc, perhaps.

After owning a R120k+ road bike (Zipp everything, SRM, 3 carbon wheelsets) and a R90k TT bike (same spec as the road bike), my view have changed. I have found that the enjoyment I get from cycling is not linked to the spec and price of my equipment. I can also not notice a difference in times or speed that I ride, except for TT - for road and mtb fitness and body mass dominates everything.

I now do not own a bike that cost me more thanR25k in total.

A good post.

If someone gave me 65k to buy a MTB, I would buy the Anthem Advanced and put the other 30k in the bank, or buy both my kids kick-ass hardtails.

That is 3 good bikes for the price of one "windgat" bike. :)

Just my opnion though. Haven't owned a Tallboy, ridden one. I'm faster on my Anthem.

ride a hardtail, a metal one, if you must, get a suspension fork, it will make you faster down hills,

Is it worth it - no

Do you want it - yes

Go get it if you can afford it!

It won't make you a faster rider than something half the price, but you will feel so much better doing it. 90% of the people that posted on this thread will still be jealous of those who can afford them - the only difference is you'll be in the latter group (I ride an Anthem 29er so include myself in the former group!).

Honestly if you need to ask

You haven't done your homework, (if you need to ask)

As said above its above your "comfort" price range IF money is the deciding factor

Don't buy because everyone says it's the best (go test ride one)and then decide for yourself

I'm on my 4th, not because I'm a brand whore, simply couldn't find better

IS IT WORTH IT ,,,THATS RELATIVE TO WHAT U CAN AFFORD,

Are they the best in the world, might not be the best, but it's up there and it will put a smile on your face every time you ride one

After just 2 weeks of riding my new Tallboy I can already say that it's better than the Morewood Zula I luvved to bits for the last 3 years. Can't give it higher praise than that.
