My first ever attemt to grow food. Still trying to keep the dogs and snails out. My children helped to plan it. But now they don't want to wait for it to grow.

One can only hope. Some tomatoes, the heinz type. Lettuce and cualiflower. And waiting on some karoo carrots to push through.

If this work I will have to invest in more dog proofing. Any ideas?

I got three packets of green dinosaur gourd ( wrinkled green calabash) seed if anyone is keen. I imported the seed last year and grew them out, this is fresh seed from that crop. Giveaway to first three pms

I think ~1 inch square 'sparre' with edges rounded. I could go and dig out my animal husbandry study notes of 20 years ago, but googled rather now. Seems it is indeed the right forum to ask the question... "The hens are voting with their feet - the bike inner tube provides the most comfortable perch."

Seems the url builder is broken so I just paste it here:

Mulmi, I see now you are also from CT. Where do you get the hens from? - I want to use an old aviary as a starting point here..

Hi guys, :)

To those who are keeping chickens especially the pekin bantams (those with very fluffy feet). Please click the link and read the article.

It regards scaly leg mite, which is so common and will cripple your bird and deform their feet, and eventually they go completely lame. I have rescued and treated so many of these birds, most of them have already lost toes. The feathered leg birds are worst affected, and you would not normally notice unless you checked under the feathers. Please check and treat your birds. It is the most terrible way for a chook to suffer. The owners are none the wiser and think the bird is just "old". Also use Karbadust for mites on the body.
