Wow. Just received an email that Eliot Mobility's bike transportation rates will change from R1090 to R1500 for this years Argus... how can such an increase be justified? Its making this event really expensive for out-of-towners...

Dear Elliott Mobility customer

Please ignore this Price Increase Notification if you have already booked your bike transportation with Elliott Mobility to the Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour in 2014.

IF YOU HAVE NOT BOOKED YOUR BIKE TRANSPORTATION AND STILL PLAN TO DO SO, PLEASE TAKE CAREFUL NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING:

Due to growing demand for our bike transportation service every year together with limited capacity and restrictions on parking space in Cape Town, Elliott Mobility is forced to increase the cost of our bike transportation service from all locations from Monday, February 10, 2014.

Current rates: Single bikes @ R1 090.00 and Tandems bikes @ R1 690.00

New rates from Monday, February 10, 2014: Single bikes @ R1 500.00 and Tandem bikes @ R2 300.00

We are not discounting the possibility of further price increases closer to the event and we encourage you to please book your bike transportation without delay (www.elliottmobility.com/argus/) in order to take advantage of our current rates. Our online booking site will close without prior notice once full capacity is reached.

For any queries, please contact us on 011-256-3000 or cycletour@elliottmobility.com

We look forward to being of service to you again in 2014.

Warm regards,

Wondering as to the real reason for this.

Has bookings been really slow (due to the overall high costs, current situation) and they want to fill their bookings ASAP.

It cant be the interest rate hike; 37.5% hike is just OTT.

Gravy train pulled into the station?

It probably takes 3 bikes to cover the fuel costs from JHB to CT and back now, then perhaps a couple more for truck and driver rental, and maybe a few more to cover insurance and space hire... Lekker by die see.

Or perhaps its all the new e-Toll costs :)

Must be the gravy train, they even admitted that it was due to increased demand, ie we can so we will. Not once did they mention increased input costs as is normal with this kind of increase, especially one this radical.

BOYCOTT THEM!!

Spread the word about this extortion on social media and see if we can get them to back down!!

Yes no ones forcing anyone but phew what a ridiculous increase.

argus is getting waaaaay to expensive for vaalies,,,flights/hotels/car rentals/ for a 3 hour ride,,,,,,its a great ride but its getting INSANELY EXPENSIVE

Starting to sound cheaper to drive down.

Flights for 2 people - R4500?

Two bikes shipped - R2500?

Total = R7000

6 tanks of petrol + tolls = R4800 (worst case scenario)

ILL ADD TO YOUR CALCULATIONS LAST YEAR DECIDED TO TAKE THE BIKES DOWN TO CPT AND KIDS AND AND AND SO WE DECIDED TO DRIVE(NEVER AGAIN)

the amount of fines i got through the small dorpies where the speed limit goes from 120-60 was a good couple of grand, and i got a NO ADMISSION OF GUILT FINE. that needed lawyers

it is still wild money for a 3 hour ride(great ride+vibe)but still wild

If you don't want to ride this year, you could have just said that your knee was sore..... no need to write a novel.

Easy solution to this. Don't speed through the little Dorpies, and stick to the speed limit everywhere else.

I did it December 2012 when I went up to GP to visit family. Not one speeding ticket there and back.
