Is My Frame Cracked

Hi Fellow Hubbers.

So I was washing my bike today and horrified to see what appears to be a crack in the frame.

The frame is a Giant TCR advanced.

Attached is a picture and close up of the "crack"

The defect in the paint is clearly visible and I can get the tip of my nail in the gap.

Please note that the bike is upside down when I took the photos.

What do the Hubbers think.

Is my Frame toast, or is it just a scratch in the paint.

could've been a cut made by something the tyre picked up. how far does the 'crack' extend in the direction of the seattube?

Good point - could well be a scratch, note that it fades out with increased diameter of the tyre

what maybe you can try to see if its a crack or a scratch is to see if some fluid like penetrating oil will seep in, and/or have an eyeball close up with a magnifying glass or USB microscope.

What you see in the pic is exactly where the "crack" is.

I have highlighted the extent of the crack using MS paint.

It was a crack surely it would extend to the radius just below it and down the other side?

I hope so.

I will pray to the cycling gods and ride it tomorrow.

If it extends than its a crack.
