Brogue Posted March 4, 2014 Share A "real" mtb'er would never consider defacing their machine with slicks, and that nogal on a 29er too. If you pedal fast enough, those knobblies SING! Gideondv, Lexx, Super Sywurm and 1 other
Nemeziz_za Posted March 4, 2014 Share Hi, Im like many of you doing the Argus this coming weekend, and I suspect like many will be doing it on a MTB(29R). Recent conversation with mates has got me thinking about adding slicks on for the ride. So my question is simply the following: 1) Is it worth it in your opinion / experience? if yes:2) then what tyre should I get or will any brand / make / type do?3) Should I add sludge or some similar type sealant to them? SWM1 Posted March 4, 2014 Share I've put Kenda Kwest slicks on my 26r. Definitely worth it - the rolling resistance is muuuuuch lower. Thorns aren't an issue and sludge does tend to increase the weight quite a bit. Warren_G

I rode the world funride champs on my Shova with knobblies on once. Hard work that. OP - Kenda Kwest are decent, and about R 120 a tyre. A twentynaainer is basically a road bike anyway, so no shame in having skinny tyres on Tatt
gwhite Posted March 4, 2014 Share I also have a pair of Kenda Kwest on my mountain bike and prefer the slicks for the Argus purely for the resistance factor.
HenryS Posted March 4, 2014 Share Hopefully you can still get some slicks at a decent price so ckose to the time.

JJBoth Posted March 4, 2014 Share Just make sure you recalibrate you speedo for the diff size wheel, + or - 2km/h makes a big difference on 100 + km race.
