We're going to Clarens for the weekend to attend a wedding. I need to get some serious hours in the saddle in preparation for Joberg2C.

Does anyone have some routes that they are willing to share (GPX. TCX etc.) - preferably the kind where a farmer does not shoot at you!

Thx.

There are some long dirt roads in the triangle between Bethlehem, Fouriesburg and Clarens.

My thinking is it would be great to stick to the tar and ride on the road between Clarens and Fouriesburg, proper hilly route with nice wide shoulders.

You could also head out in Golden Gate's direction, but that tar road does not have much in terms of a shoulder or run-off areas at the side of the road, so could be quite sketchy at times...

Clarens Extreme, They're in town, get the permits and maps in their shop. They've built some trails all over, it will keep you entertained for a while. Some of it is really nice flowing trails - enjoy!

Clarens xtreme is not on the square anymore. They are in the line of shops at the bottom where you turn into Clarens.

I did a trail called Toeka a few weeks ago. No big hills. A bit of tar to the turnoff outside town.District roads. Few kms on farm roads.Nice scenery. 40 kms or so. Rough guess.

There is also a town loop. But this I was told is very difficult although not very long.

Anyone done the Old Mill Drift route on a MTB?  I know it is more known for 4x4, the one that goes close to the Rebellie Game farm?

Was googling it just now. There are some videos on the web, its possible, but a high level of fitness and technical climbing and descending ability will be required.

Under rated MTB and gravel destination potential imho, there are so many good trails and general routes around. Have had some amazing rides there with setting routes for training camps.

Clarens Xtreme, chat to Oli the owner. He knows every nook and cranny in the surrounding mountains. Ex cop in the horse unit and an absolute character.

Also chat to the folk at the brewery in Clarens, they are avid riders and as well as having assisted us with training camp routes they are also event organisers for a stage race in the area.
