nonky Posted May 20, 2014 Share As I suffer from allergies and asthma, dust during training and (especially) races can trigger an asthma / coughing attack and leave me wheezing for hours afterwards. Can anyone recommend a good dusk mask, which will filter dust/pollen/pollution and which is suitable for use while riding a MTB? Also, an indication where to purchase and at what cost would be very much appreciated.

BogusOne Posted May 20, 2014 Share Not sure if there would be anything inconspicuous that you could use other than these... They not very effective though and you might look like Michael Jackson http://www.richmond.ac.uk/studentsweb/adm372/sp10/m002104/images/dust-mask.jpg Alternatively you could go for the whole Darth Vader look http://files.stv.tv/imagebase/110/623x349/110841-darth-vader-robber-used-helmet-as-a-disguise-during-raid.jpg nonky

RocknRolla Posted May 20, 2014 Share Problem with the offtheshelf dust masks are that they will restrict oxygen intake, which will equate to riding at altitude. Cant you rather treat the symptoms with antihystamine of similar medication? Queue the medical pro's : nonky

nonky Posted May 21, 2014 Share A buff over the mouth and nose works pretty well Have two buffs but I am unsure whether that actually work (ie filter the air)...also, they lead to serious fogging of glasses. I was hoping for a better solution

Queue the medical pro's : Most asthmatics use medication - I use a new generation inhaler and a nosespray for allergic rhinitis but neither can combat lungs full of dust. I want to eliminate the problem, not medicate it.
