BenReaper Posted September 22, 2018 Share In light of the above post I did a few ride on the GSXR and within a few months I realised I was use to the power again and becoming reckless by riding reckless and fast as if the roads were my racetrack. Started looking at alternative options and being an avid mountainbiker I inevitably became interested in adventure motorcycling. After extensive research and deciding what I really wanted/needed I ended up looking at something in the mid engine size market, something I could relatively comfortably pillion my wife along with but also do the odd funduro with. Was planning on buying a KLR once my GSXR was sold but then this bike came along ticking all the right boxes and at a price I couldn't let it go by at. So 3 weeks ago I collected my 1986 DR600 and what a bike it is.[emoji108] Second weekend of ownership the wife and I attended the anual Canola Run in Caledon having a blast of a time in the mudfest and last weekend I took my boy for a short Sunday trip up to Stettyn Dam for a quick fishing trip. Lovely bike! If you find yourself in the Hoekwil area I can share great routes for such a machine. I have a KLR and frequently do long day rides trying for at least 75% dirt during the 6 plus hrs. BenReaper Posted September 24, 2018 Share Spent Yesterday afternoon on the motorbike again with my boy.Did some railway service jeeptrack and some back roads between the farms around Slanghoek and Rawsonville. Quickly racked up a 100km's with plenty to see.Even gave the little guy a go at the controls for a short while. They used to come with a trailer and load the crate and off they went. Wasn't too much to assemble though - usually only wheels and handlebars, but it was the thought that counted I guess! You should buy yourself one of those el-cheapo Chinese things, and strip it down completely and then slowly rebuild it, replacing all the cheap bolts and bearings with decent stuff. It will be a bit of cash, but will be the best learning experience you will ever get, and if you do mess something up, at least you won't be losing too much cash. My dad did that for me when I was 12 - he bought three old DT125's (the aircooled ones) and said right, now you build one out of the three. What I learn't over the December holidays that year was absolutely invaluable. And it kept me out of **** too! I finally found a bike that would fit my wife..... and she likes the looks, but not the price....
