So I joined the Harley Haven SA group this morning for a sunrise ride out to Kalkbay to swim in the Dalebrook Tidal Pool ... at sunrise.

The ride started at the Engen in Montavista, down the N1, M5, N2, M3 and then the best part onto Boyes Drive to drop into Kalkbay, the swim and breakfast afterwards.

There are not many things that can challenge a sunrise swim, in a tidal pool with waves crashing over the wall .... and then having two curious otters swimming around you.

What surprised me were the numbers of locals coming for a swim at that hour of the morning ... from individuals, to families.

Had a quick, and rather good coffee and muffin before heading back home on a solo ride, just to realise that I may well prefer riding by myself and taking whichever turn off or road that interests me along the way vs riding with a group.

Will have to try another ride with them again and see how that rolls.

Anyone have any experience with CountryTrax Training courses?

Thinking of enrolling for the introduction to off-road riding course, either that, or Triumph have something similar.

But 1st to get some new rubber.

We were last week at glencairn and muizenberg. for a surf. My buddy got sick, but he stayed in long, where as I just caught about 4 waves and headed out. Not sure, but I joked with him about the staying in the K@K water long.

They are the established brand but have devolved to some extent but teaching a similar "curriculum".  Well worth doing; you always learn something and gain confidence. The introductory course particularly is very safe IMHO (I have only done one; but friends have done a few).

So when I bought my bike, the bike shop said that the tyres fitted were "new". To my very novice eye, the front tyre certainly looked the part with the little mold pins still showing, and the rear looking like it had just been scuffed up.

Now the rear tyre did not last too long till I replace her, figured that this is just the life of a rear tyre on a bike with lots of torque and a rider who has the tendency of getting up to speed quickly.

I just got back from a meeting in Stellies, was walking past the bike to the garage and noticed what looked like a bulge to the tyre, took a closer look and it certainly is showing signs if ever so slight deformation. FOOK. Knowing a little more about tyres now, I looked for the date of manufacture. This fooking thing was made in 2012, so it is more than 10 years and should in theory be binned anyway...... so much for it being a "new tyre". Purchased the bike in May 2021, so even then the tyre was 9 years old. Did I just get screwed over again with old stock being fitted to the bike to get it out the showroom, as the rear tyre that was fitted was also a Bridestone vs the Pirelli Night Dragon that is on the front of the bike.

Oh, tyres are not a fun purchase on the Fat Bob with a 130/90-16 Front and a 180/70-16 Rear.

Don't even ask about the 240/50/16 that's on the Rocket

I know it is not exactly the same size, but this is a reasonable price range .... what are the tyre sharks asking of you?

The Pirellis for the Fat Bob came in at 4K fitted for the rear, and 3.6K for the front.

I checked with Harley, and their (poorly rated on the internet) tyres for my bike came in at just over 10.5K for a set of tyres, and excluding fitment and balancing ... fooking crazy chops they are.
