That's an awesome Pic, Thanks ICM.

That's me on my Dakar, too much crap packed on as usual.

Yeah, my mate Neil took the pic. He is/was a Wilddog too.

Went past the workshop on Friday, the old girl is standing there with her insides ripped out, and with what looks like no work.

Dude is nowhere to be seen, motor on the workbench, and the guys in the workshop do not know the status of the motor, or where the gaskets are.

Still not answering my calls, so I sent a very "appropriate" voice note was responded to where I either get my money given back now, or the bike gets built up now....and he noted that this weekend he will "get it done".

Really not holding my breath on this one.

Went to the workshop now after a tip off that the guy is moving bikes out.

The youngsters were there loading things up, mechanic not to be seen.

Engine has already been taken away to "his house".

Parts lying everywhere. Asked youngster where the exhaust was, he had no idea, radiator, no idea, etc....walk about find the stuff in and around other bikes in the workshop.

Another person came there too, looking for his rather "rare" bike which was in parts. Had to hunt around what was there to find most of his stuff.

Notified mechanic that if the engine and all parts are not back by 12:00 tomorrow I am going to the police to lay a case of theft.

Will have to take him to small claims court eventually. Even if I get R50 a month, with that R50 a month I will buy a nice beer and toast the bike.

This is what she looks like now

Makes me sick that people can do this.  And reading back now i guess hindsight is always 20/20 but this guy was clearly screwing you around when you look back.

Decent guy, probably got into some financial trouble and now who knows what he thinks the way out is now.....

From our conversation this morning, before my first cup of coffee, I have fallen for giving him one last chance.....but this time round, I am not expecting him to full fill his commitments.

I sold a perfectly restored Venom which was licensed for this.  My Dad bought this years ago, in boxes, and was going to be the last bike he built.  He never got round to it, so I have decided to finish it for him, and I'm going to spend he better part of the money I got for the Venom to do this.  This bike will be the best restoration I have ever done and will be a tribute to him.  Watch this space!

So I said watch this space......

Turns out that my Dad's description of "it's all there you just need to assemble it" was a bit economical. There's quite a bit missing and sourcing all the bits from the UK would have set me back around R40k.  About three weeks ago I couldn't sleep so I went off to he kitchen to make some Rooibos with honey and while the kettle was boiling I was scouring FB Marketplace (as one does).  Lo and behold a Velocette pops up - and one with some pretty interesting parts.  Now these never pop up on Marketplace so must be a scam I think,  Anyway, reverse image search comes up good so I send the guy a message.  Yes - bike is available, its on his farm in Whiteriver.  Guy sounds honest enough, so off I go with the trailer because the price he wants is about what I'll need for spares anyway so makes sense.  Long story short I returned with a (very shiney) 500.  A bit of research and it's not just any old bike, but one that has quite a history as a race bike. Unreal that it was just lying there on a farm.  The Chrome is definitely not standard, and it's had a fairly hard life but it runs and sounds pretty throaty - the motor has had work done so going to be interesting to see what was done.

As for the original one - not sure now.  I might still slowly get it together but for now this one will be taking its place on the bench!

damned good chrome work on the tank

It's beautifully done.  I cringe to think what it must have cost.

Problem is, it's not standard so now I need to decide do I keep it, or have it all removed......
