I have a tour coming up in October. 4 days in the eastern freestate ( Fouriesburg area and then further south) Washed the bike on Sunday as she is being used exclusively for commuting at the moment...looking forward to getting out of JHB and on some dirt roads where this bike belongs..

I'm going to The Wilddogs Oostfin weekend.

I have a friend riding up from CT to join me, and I'm really looking forward to showing him some roads around the area, as he have not visited Golden Gate before.

JHB to Fouriesburg 17th October (From Deneysville as much dirt as possible)

18th October, about 400kms around the area, some proper freestate dirt, including some of the sandstone foothills of the Drakensburg and Lesotho

19th We are heading south, skirting lesotho probably to Gariep Dam (It's going to be a long day)

I have a route planned, but I don't know the roads, and have only planned using T4A, seeking out gravel roads.

20th, My mate carries on to Paarl, While I slab it back to the big smoke.

I was originally ollypiel as I am a member of the mighty pielkoppe bike club but that was found to be distasteful so changed to IceCreamMan.

about 4 years ago I ran foul of the WD censors, surprisingly so , and decided to retire so deleted my profile. ( at least I think I did).

it’s a great forum…great for adventure riding in ZA, Africa and the globe. Only advrider is better Imho.

met so good folks at WD, including fanny Kilroy.

I was off WD's for a long while. Asked the big fanny to delete my profile, but he refused. LOL, I guess he knew something I didn't. I learnt a lot on that forum, both about bikes, and people and their opposing views. I have more time on my hands, so I gravitated back to the forum. I am also in a  position to ride a bit more (touring) and I enjoy writing ride reports.

As for Bash attendance... 20 years is a long time, and I am still shocked every time I see a recent photo of some of the members. (Not like me, who retained my youthful appearance :) )

I think age has a lot to do with it. I was 29 when I joined. (Started riding at 28) I think a lot of the original members simply does not tour as much, if they even still ride.

Any event. I'm excited for the opportunity (excuse) to ride for 4 days, and see my CT riding buddy, who has not been to Golden Gate greater eastern freestate. He has shown me a lot of the cape, karoo etc area, I have to now try and compete showing him some farmlands and sandstone hills.

Nice one. Full ride report please.

I went on a number of the WD events. Shadow mountain? Then the one near the dam , the name eclipses me. ( out near Orania). Think I went on about 5 or 6 of them. They were all good.

I joined just after it started. Early 2006 iirc. It’s a great resource and the ous are willing to help each other which is very cool.

i still send fotos to Welsh whenever i am in his hometown. 😂

I'll share my report here when done.

I rode with you and the other Pielkoppe to the Boegoeberg bash and back. That was a lekker tour and bash. Good Times.

That’s the name I couldn’t remember. Boegoeberg. I remember. Was on my tenere 660. What a lekker boney that was.

my one mate, gentleman on WD scored a local chick. Her boyfriend came in his car looking for her. Feck, we still laugh about that.

Ironbull roadhouse in Basingstoke is a saffa owned and run pub. Over the last few years it’s been a regular for me.

Unfortunately it’s closing its doors today. Landlord has sold the property apparently. ( Will confirm).

real pity. So decided to do a long loop of south England and end up there. Bit moist with rain about and the monster affords no protection from the elements.

first pics at Loomies, well known biker cafe. Out on my Monster. Bike makes me laugh.

SRAD in great nick.
900 RF in less than great nick. Has 84000 miles on the clock. These old Suzukis never die.

Mighty Monster at Ironbull.

and this ex ZA legendary blues guitarist played some tunes. Wasn’t expecting him to play so a lil serendipity this Sunday afternoon
