Not a huge amount of progress this long weekend - lots of time spent, not a lot to show.  Got the chainline sorted, made a plate to support the rear brake hub (the Original Velocette rear brake sits on the LHS - the DT on the right, and then began to weld the tank closed again.  Which tested my patience.  A lot.  Lets just say its a good thing the patches are underneath the tank away from view.....

I love the new FI 500's. I've spent some time on the new Husky 501 and the KTM and I could quite easily live with either in my garage. I'm just not convinced that it's a better all rounder than the 690.

I thought the same, then I bought both.

690 is 32kg heavier, more stuff that can go wrong and not as punchy.

500 cont me less and after 10k its ready for any adventure.

Guys have been doing big tours.

Nothing done other than oil changes.

Thats 500 hours.

500hrs on a 500 without a top end is very impressive but I can only think they're using it as an out & out adventure bike and thus not redlining & racing the bike at all. I could be wrong of course. I have a mate who opened up his WR450 on 300hrs and everything measured to spec and this after riding in the dunes with it almost every weekend and using it to race the offroad series. So it's possible.

Even a 300cc 2T will give you 300hrs on a top end if you're not racing the bike and doing regular oil & air filter maintenance.
