May be an image of 1 person, motorcycle and text that says "I don't know who this man is but I do know that his wife was out of town for the weekend."

He hee from memory maybe a DT 360 or 250 so early 70's; must be Andyman (or a friend of his). Too old for Mr Min (Jeff would have had a full on MX bike). Lighty has a look of Russell Campbell 👺

Agree with your comment @Hairy, motorcycling is indeed cheaper than cycling!

I feel that good suspension goes a long way and overall improves the comfort and handling of your machine, so it is money well spent.

I cannot be happier that the stock air shock is replaced with a proper aftermarket nitrogen shock on my G650X.

Not 100% sure but progressive springs is something also to consider maybe? Will be cheaper than replacing the whole shock or fork.

@Spokey may chip in here with his wisdom.

I do feel the progressive front springs make a difference at a very modest cost. If I recall the springs were around R3000 for my KLR 650. (Few years ago but still very affordable back then). The difference is like chalk and cheese on that bike. The springs are considerably longer so the spacer had to be cut in the fork tube. Together with a quality “one weight” heavier fork oil it now  rides a lot less like the agricultural bike it is. I have done the suspension on my older road bikes and boy it pays dividends in handling. My 40 plus year old Honda’s handle sweetly and the ZRX1200 no longer feels like the frame has a hinge in the middle……….

My FZR1000 has a Hagon Monoshock to replace  the old remote reservoir OEM that was rebuilt and actually collapsed on a ride! The front forks just get regular oil changes as they are good quality Ohlins internals.

@Hairy, yeah, agreed, if you are looking to change up to another Harley rather just keep the OEM bouncers clean and leak free. Hard to recover the money spent on bits on a bike when trading in.

I have been away from SA for 7 weeks and this machine is calling……..Weather looks good for a Sunday blast over the mountains!

Decided against selling my bike, and got the seller's remorse. I am going to miss this bike, even if I don't ride it so much. But I need to toughen up and go for a solo ride once, just need to work on my tools first, otherwise, I am going to leave myself stranded...

Luckily the bank manager approved the sports shooting, so it is still on the menu going forward.

Happy Wednesday All!

FUEL ECONOMY

Have any of you riff raff tried to run a single tank of petrol with a light throttle and try your best to see what the best fuel economy you can achieve off said tank could be.

I have honestly tried this a few times, with the best of intentions .... then you ride in traffic and so many people drive like chops and you just want to get past all the cars into a nice safe bubble with none of them around, or it just feels so good to go BRRRAAAP BRRAAAPP BRAAAP through the gears. What I am trying to say is that I may be never be able do this economy run test :(

With a range of about 450 to 550 kms on my lump and at the rate I ride, it would take me about 3 weeks to a month to ride it to empty. Ain't got that amount of patience. My computer tells me I get about 5.4l/100kms. Good enough for me.

Normal spirited stop go riding around town gives me 6'ish l/km and on open roads it comes down to 5.3l/km. Not bad for a 1600cc engine, and still less than my car smaller capacity cars usage.

My Big Katoom, the 1190 returns around 16 to 18 kms per litre when ridden conservatively, but……………a little exuberant use of the twist grip will drop that to just 13. When I travel loaded with panniers, I really do need to pay attention to my fuel stops, especially into a headwind, running knobblies and in the dirt sure does not help.
