A lot of people getting VERY defensive here, I guess I must have hit on a grain of truth.

 

I'm not criticising the concept of wide bars (yes, I too have wide-ish bars), I'm criticising the concept of going so wide that it looks stupid, without knowing why you're doing it, simply because everyone else is doing it - kinda like the leg shaving thing, people do it without questioning why, to fit in with the crowd, then find a justification for it afterwards.

Again, what do you consider to be "overly wide"

 

720? 750? 780?

 

I run 750's on a 40mm stem. Actually thinking of going back to 780 as I had that much more control (yes, just 15mm a side makes the difference) but my fore-arms are outwardly splayed - it gives me more breathing room, better control and more balance. Am I considered as one of your monkeys?

Like 29'ers, 650b'ers and listening to Justin Beiber then?

 

I know why I have wider bars and I know how they have improved my ride .... so there is a grain of truth in that.
