Tried to stop a car, sad part is the first 2 cars just passed them. Luckily the 3rd one stop. 3 Guys only managed to get away with Bianca's phone. DIPSLICK and nathrix 2
kandui Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Kayamandi is the home of the Songo.info . The criminals seem to originate from Kayamandi and duck back into the community after they attack a cyclist. I would assume there are a reasonable number of community members that cycle or are sensitized to the sport.Do they not know who the scumbags are and think that it's in their best interest, not to mention the right thing to do, to intercept the criminals and alert SAPS? Should Songo.info not get involved in cycle safety in the area?It seems like a pro-active thing to do. After all, they are entrenched in the community.Just a thought I had. Fire Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Thanks for the concers guys. It was myself and Bianca. It happened so flippen fast.! We were aware of the muggings going on there, so tried to be on the look out. It was just so fast. It was the most awful feeling not stopping immediately with Bianca, but new that if I'd stop they will just grab me, so went into the road and stopped a car. Luckily Bianca had such a cool head on her and offer her phone when they grabbed her. At that time they probably saw the car that stopped and just took the phone and ran away. We can be very grateful, but at the same time, WHY should we be victims to this!! What if there is a life lost??? Then the media would be quick to put it on the front page of newspapers. I was lucky to get away untouched. The cops say they target single guys/lady and even two ladies cycling together. According to the cops, the hot spot is from Stellenbosch, to Bottelary, Kromme Rhee to Klapmuts Road and back to Stellenbsoch. This incident made me sell my road bike. I only ride mountain bike now, but I am armed wherever I ride. Smurfy 1

So saddening that the media only vilifies cyclists. So happy you two are safe.
