I have bought from and sold to many one post hubbers.....that's not the problem.

Doing a few checks and trusting your gut work better.

Google the tel no.....if you find hits on cycling races probably an ok guy.......finding hits all over the place for the same goods and i'd walk away.Check Facebook and see if he has race pics or bike pics.

Caution: This post was not well thought through.

So I posted a potentially contentious post without due thought or consideration, I realise now that this never happens on the hub and I should stand in the corner and not think about bicycles.

Mea culpa.

I'm in the same boat as many. I hardly ever post but read often. I'm building a bike at present and have bought stuff on the hub and currently am attempting to sell a fork, long story. Fact is I try to make sure my posts add something to the community or I don't bother. My build thread for instance I thought added something so I put it up but I'm not going to post arb pictures of people bailing off their bikes as funny as I might find them for the same reason I often don't bother to like people's photos on facebook. But I fully intend to present the item I'm selling honestly and answer any questions asked properly since that is how I expect to be treated when buying something. Maybe a small waiting period could be asked for but 100 posts is quite a lot actually and 1000 is months to years at my rate.

Oooooops.........luckily I haven't got anything of value to add to the community.......or valuable to sell........just enjoying coffee made as recommended in the "Koefie Maacsjien" thread.

wont sell / buy anything to / from anyone with less than 1000 posts. Been flamed for this but sticking to it...serves me well thusfar.

I am with you on this one. Bought a Fork from a 1 timer - it blew the seals before I hit the end of the driveway. Seller reckons it was fine when it was in his hands... Went out to view a 29r frame the other day - happened to be a 26r. Today there is a Cannondale Flash advertised as a 29r - I am 99.8% sure its a 26r. The Hub has become another avenue for scamsters (IMO).

I joined the hub when looking for a new bike, fellow club members recommended it, as of now I do not have a lot of posts because I am a little cautious that I will get flamed for some or other reason, but I sell stuff now and again. This does not make me a shady person just a cautious one.

That's not really an analogous comparison. I take Shaper's point however. I don't mean it maliciously, it just feels like it would be nice to somehow "convert" them to being part of a good community instead of just using the site and never contributing.

I dont think post count should play a part in advertising somthing in the classifieds! After all it is a classified. I too have bought and sold items to hubbers with 0 or below 10 posts in the past and had no issue with the products.

Personally I believe it is a matter of choice as well who you buy from like buying from one shop and not from another.

However maybe there could be a verification system of some sort to put everyone at ease.

The only comment I have to classifieds is that I always try to add feedback whether selling or buying but in my experience this is not used widely enough ...... I can tell by the fact that I have bought quite a few things but have only 3 and I don't mind if someone has a negative comment!
