Now I have a theory on music, and how it has been influenced by the advent of MP3's.

"Back in the day" it would take far more commitment from a recording studio to put out an album than it is today.

It is so easy to just release a single with a catchy jingle and a chorus that you can sing till you are hoarse with the advent of digital music. The risk to distribute is minute compared to pressing vinyl records and distributing this around the world. Now they simply load it up and the consumer downloads the track, with some people still buying CD's.

Due to the higher pace of music being produced there is less artistry in the lyrics and sounds being generated.

Just my tin foil hat theory.

I agree with the less artistry but I think it is because of piracy. Just far easier to download a song for free than to buy an album. Can't imagine there is that much money in album sales anymore.

I used to believe that the onset of digital media meant that artists were no longer focusing on the concept of an album telling a story.. But in reality that still exists and is still happening. The artists that are selling singles never really sold albums in the first place.... Even way back when... And the artists that are telling stories are still telling stories.

Albums that tell stories are still being produced whether it's Lorde, arcade fire or Taylor swift. I therefore will disagree that there is less artistry.... In the songs that matter anyway.

I think the mainstream pop will always be lyrically challenged... Whether your are pushing pineapple shaking tree..or wiggle wiggling
