I've been looking at buying a couple of bike racks/parks for some time for our restaurant. We get quite allot of families riding at weekends as well as MTB'ers and a few roadies. I've also visited a few places where I've not been entirely happy with the bike stands and left thinking there must be better options out there. Can you guys share your experience on what makes a good stand.

The basic brief is the stand needs to accommodate up to eight bikes made from galvanised mild steel so I can have it locally manufactured. The stand will be bolt fixed to concrete floor.

I've included a few designs off the web to get the ball rolling.

Agreed ! Normal bike racks always manages to hurt the derailleur.

Hanging from the saddle would be best - easy to use - no damage to frame!

Even something that the nose of the saddle can just hook through.

I did consider the A frame it makes total scence... My only issue is kids will use it to swing off and then the fat kid will for sure bend or break it. We have a secure area for the bikes with CCTV coverage so locking them up will not be neccessary.

I agree with the 'triathlon style' way.

Then one doesnt have to worry about wheel sizing and thickness and also only the front wheel can go in most of the other style ones because of RD's.

Something like gum poles might be the cheapest too.

That could work go rustic with the gum poles and and keep the bar height is low enough so the kiddies can't swing. The question then is how high.

The wooden options will be a stronger option, I have seen this exact design outside bike plus

I still need a steel option as well. The general consensus so far is the tradition floor rack doesn't really work that well. I'd still like to explore both options though.

How much space do you have ?

Other thoughts might be why dont you have a row of hooks on a wall ? Folks can hang the bikes from the front wheel garage style ?

Or how about a thickish tree log? just cut grooves in so the front tyre sits in the groove. A log placed in the middle of the lawn and you can have bikes on both sides of the log. Nice rustic look.
