Perhaps this has been covered under another thread & my search/eyes did not pick anything up.

For those who use Strava, those who use Power Meters, but more Specifically those who use both...

How accurate would the "Estimated average power output" on Strava be in comparison to the Power meter readings...??

Anyone tried & compared?

Yes, it is estimated.

Yes, it is averaged.

Yes, it is more than likely guess work.

Just as a matter of interest.

they want you to become premium members to see the "real" values for Power.

If you ride with a power meter a little lightning bolt next to your power numbers. Else it is just their estimate.

Has nothing to do with premium membership.

And to the OP their numbers are FAR off the real thing

Groundhog day, didn't you post that 3 hours ago DIPS??

I thought so ,,,, maybe it got deleted, can't think why, but clearly I'm not as mad as I thought

Seeing that I dont ride with a powermeter (although it sounds like I should invest in one) I was just interested in whether the Strava ones are more BS than anything else...

As suspected BS!!! Thank you all

The figures might not be scientifically correct. However, if the maths behind the numbers is consistent, then you should be able to use them as a basis for comparison for yourself over time. So if on day 1 your reading is X and on day 31 it's Y, you will be able to see your improvement.

Its all relative

As you said the maths are correct, the watts is based on your rates of ascent, normalized rolling resistance and total weight. So on a perfect day up a smooth (road) climb it gets close, but there are variables strava cannot account for -

Wind

Variable rolling resistance

Technical obstacles

So under the same conditions, it can be an indication, but don't bargain on it.
