What protective gear do you wear on most rides?

Especially with Mountain Biking, I suggest getting a helmet with side protection as well.

Check these Norwegian Etto helmets out.

The guys at our local rides love them.

I bought the Etto Lid and it's saved me on several occasions. Unfortunately I used my face as a break at the G-Spot the other week. Ended up sliding across a jeep track on my head with grazing down the side of my face. A full face or clip off chin guard would be nice. So you can gun it down the trails and take it off after. It took me a week to recover. I did a nice 360 front roll clipped in. The biggest lesson I learned was a good set of tyres is almost protection itself.

I've been looking the G foam knee pads as a light weight option as my knee's seam to be getting the most.

depends who im riding with and where im going, if it isint tokai or rhodes mem then ill for sure wear at least knee guards, if im riding with people who push me its at least knee guards, if its with people who push me hard or if its an enduro then its knees and elbows. if its just a quick xc ride up rhodes then nothing (got the grazes where my knee guards should be to show for it).

i.e.

no armor.

chilled ride with chilled people in a plance i know well

rhodes mem

knees.

most riding at tokai or almost anywhere else

knees and elbows.

hard dh orientated ride or if im feeling like it

knees, elbows and goggles.

enduro race (maybe if im feeling #ENDURO)

fullface, goggles, knees, elbows.

shuttling (im not cycling all this sh... up the hill)

shins, knees, armored underpants (like a pressure suit, but more important) , pressure suit, elbows, fullface and goggles

maybe if someone held a gun to my head and told me to walk down the rampage course...

If you intend pushing the limits down hills a bit always wear some extra protection.

The Gforms look cool but do not pass German ( I think) impact protection standards (Enduro MTB magazine tested them) Light impacts only. I use 661 dh knee guards and they have saved me from serious grazing and probably bruising or crack kneecaps on several occasions. I carry mine in my bag and put them on for the descent

I always ride with a camelbak type bag - this also protects your spine to some extent.

Full finger gloves - essential

Long sleeved top - usually, except when its very hot.

Extended coverage helmet - wont help your face but a bit more protection at the sides and back is good.

Decent MTB shoes - as Capricorn says 5.10's are dik ( heavy too but you feel no pain in a crash)

Yeah, the Gforms are nice and minimal but not sure I'd trust them to give me too much protection on harder falls...

I just ordered a 16l EVOC pack and gonna carry my pads with me all the time so can keep them in the pack for ascents and then slip them on for the downs.

I've got the Leatt 3DF elbow and knee pads and they are super comfy and breathable (Although the elbows do get a bit hot on longer rides).

Have 510s so all good there and waiting on my BlueGrass Golden Eye helmet that's replacing my 661 recon so I'm suited and booted.

It's just that mofo Murphy that lets **** happen when I'm not wearing anything... So I'm gonna die of dehydration from sweating 'cos I'm wearing it all from now on - But at least I'll be a cut, bruise and graze free corps... :P

Oufy, were you in Tokai on saturday morning, round 8h30, going up Vasbyt? I'm the oke on the Reign X and pink dayglo helmet. If it was you, I've seen you a few times...

if the oke was going up Vasbyt like really fast, yeah then it is definitely me, lol.

Unfortunately, not to be, this weekend I was doing the roadie thing, but don't tell anyone :)

Helmet and glasses..... in addition to lycra - sometimes gloves - usually full fingered on the mtb and big thick ones for the road in winter...

Same here and I also have the bad habit of riding without gloves from time to time, road & MTB. I know I shouldn't.

Gloves, Knees, either Bell Super or Bell Drop helmet, depending on DH or Trail riding.

I don't like the weirdo tan gloves give.... so when I am training during daylight hours or just casual riding, I often leave them out - bunch riding and races, then they go on for sure.

They're great. Right up until the point you actually need them. One of the guys on our trip used them. 5 stitches in his knee. 4 days off the bike. He went and bought real kneepads.

Last year was doing some weekly jumping with the mates and had a small fall but my elbow perfectly timed it's fall to hit a rock sticking out the ground in such a way that it broke, was out for 3 months! These days whenever I jump I always wear elbow pads even if they are small jumps

After Dominic bright smashed his knee into little bits and pieces, despite wearing what most considered decent knee pads, I vowed to never wear knee or elbow pads that didn't have a hardshell, and that's how its been ever since.

The new 5.10 replacement of the Impact are light. I might have accidentally tripped and bought a pair.

661 Rage knee guards, Fox hard shell elbow guards, 661 ff helmet, goggles, POC gloves, rip stop long shorts (Fox, Endura or TLD), jersey...you can fall just as hard on jeep track as you can downhill!
