Hi

Anyone here tried making homemade tyre sealant ?

where did you get your latex liquid and how much more or less for 1lt ?

did you use slime (green stuff) , glitter or both ?

what antifreeze did you use ? the concentrate or the already mixed versions ?

anything that i might need to add or that i am forgetting ?

I think the easier option is just to dilute the cheaper thick tyre sealant with water and anti-freeze and maybe add some glitter.

I haven't tried it but someone here once sent me their recipe and it was basically the above mentioned, mixed about 50 /50, but using Midas pre-mixed anti-freeze.

I've been making my own "stans" for many years. We checked it on an infrared scanner and it was a perfect match.

You'll need liquid latex. I get mine in PE from a company called Stapol.

Propolyne glycol you can order from any pharmacy

Distilled water

Maize meal

about 3 parts by volume liquid latex;

about 7 parts by volume water; and

about 6 parts by volume propylene glycol.

Mix the water with the latex and add the glycol slowly. Mix it well and add a few teaspoons of the maize meal. I sometimes add another teaspoon full straight into the tyre before sealing it.

it works out to around one third of the price of Stans.

Done it. Latex from hobby shop. Windowlene and glitter.

Also done the cheap sealant and glitter thing.

But.... at the end of the day, Stan remains the man.

I recently dumped stans, Got some lekker sealant from a local motorbike shop and it's tried and tested on all my 3 bikes for more than 2000km.
