Rule #19 // Introduce Yourself.

If you deem it appropriate to join a group of riders who are not part of an open group ride and who are not your mates, it is customary and courteous to announce your presence. Introduce yourself and ask if you may join the group. If you have been passed by a group, wait for an invitation, introduce yourself, or let them go. The silent joiner is viewed as ill-mannered and Anti-V. Conversely, the joiner who can’t shut their cakehole is no better and should be dropped from the group at first opportunity.

Done this a few times and discovered new trails.

if they infront of you they are rabbits/targets, chase them down, and fly past

if they come up from behind they stravaaassholes, mumble and send them on their way

EASY

Like keeping up with Roadies who are in for a slow ride. They hate that. Also close to home I have my sections where I dump whatever I have left in me before I go home. You go past them and you can see they are annoyed with you. Aspecially If you burn out a while later and they pass you again. But then I feel stupid. Sometimes you are just riding your game.

But I love the idea of rabbits. Now I'll visualize rabbits when I see someone in front of me.

Rule #38 // Don’t Play Leap Frog.

Train Properly: if you get passed by someone, it is nothing personal, just accept that on the day/effort/ride they were stronger than you. If you can’t deal, work harder. But don’t go playing leap frog to get in front only to be taken over again (multiple times) because you can’t keep up the pace. Especially don’t do this just because the person overtaking you is a woman. Seriously. Get over it.

HeHe...You'll see me when I pass for all of 30 seconds. Enjoy the view while it lasts.....you wont see it again for the rest of your ride

A group of us had an interesting ride the other day. we were out for our +100km Saturday ride and due to where we live and the level we ride at we tend to know all the riders who are in the area at the same level.

Now about 40kms in to our ride going at a fairly hard pace. suddenly we had a solo rider come flying passed going all out.

We decided to give him a gap and see how he would do out front in the wind. A few kms later we saw a few nervous looks over the shoulder and we knew he was poked. We then rolled passed and he jumped in the back and we all had a good laugh about the last 10kms.

Rule #38 seems to be hard for geared people to understand. They have this odd habit of sprinting off on the flats and then losing interest on the hills

This rabbit thing has ruined my LSDs in the cradle. What was supposed to be nice long slow rides turns into 30 x shorter "chase the guy a few hundred metres ahead" down Tempos....

Apprently its only a male thing (according to my wife)....Recently i was doing a looong LSD ride on my TT machine and included a few long climbs in the route planning, everything was going according to plan untill these 2 dual suspension equipped mountainbikers with backpacks n all (probably training for swissepic) overtook me going up one of the long hills....

Avoid unnecessary angst or pride.

Just ask.

All conscientious cyclists know it is better to roll together, unless it's a team training of course.

Be sure to take a pull though - don't be a leech.
